ah well, I was about to say that at least we managed to secure the second batting point, but that isn't pertinent any more. I'd rather get thrashed by Notts than beat them yet miss out by one bonus point a week today

That points deduction is wholly unreasonable given the situation -wet ball, sanitising ball,hand sanitisation all are time consuming. Furthermore,Durham would have clawedback the overate with slowbowlers in the meaningless bowling session of Warks 2nd inns, we'd obviously declare after 110 overs but weather prevented it. Yet another example of a lack of foresight of power mad umpires- never heard of either of them. Nevertheless,if we beat Notts we'll likely claw back the now 15pts deficit.
We're guaranteed the 2nd tier regardless -I'd be happy enough with that.

I don't mind deductions for slow over rate. Without them there'd be loads of instances where the rain has interfered and the bowling side faffs about slowing everything down to stop the batting side from completing their win. It's up to captains to keep up to date with the over rate... it's on the scoreboard, after all, so there's no excuses imo. I understand that there will be times when a couple of quicks are building pressure or taking wickets and the capt doesn't want to change them, but there's loads of flexibility there, it isn't as if teams are still expected to bowl 105 overs in a day. No DRS in county cricket to slow things down further either.

When watching the live feed there were often few signs of urgency when we were bowling. Lots of field changes, lots of discussions between bowler and capt. In one game Borthwick had to bowl a fair few overs just to catch up, because we were -3 or -4 on the over rate at one point

and on that occasion I think we were able to play until about 6.45 to catch up, so when there's weather about it's even more important to keep on top of it

Over rates are easy to calculate from the official ECB scorecards which display lengths of innings in both overs and minutes.

Almost identical Yet Durham are penalised 2 pts and Warks escape sanction.
Notts over rate was likewise 14.4 in the other game in the conference yet also escaped sanction.
I've no issue with over rate sanctions but they ought to be applied consistently across all teams.

Yes, decent record and was with Somerset for a few years. It might not pay off but probably good thinking to bring in an experienced bowler. Suppose they could have gone with Rushworth.
