Emmerson tweeted he has gone. I'm sure he will be right - typically though I don't think the club have announced it.

The bombs keep coming. Guardian reporting that Wood's contract downgraded to white- ball only. Durham, however, get a compensatory payment for the downgrading.

I wonder if there's a clause in the central contracts that allow them to be cancelled for off field misdemeanours? And if that does happen to Stokes would FTECB compensate Durham? Presumably they'd have to because it would be farcical if he was stripped of the contract and Durham had to pay his wages.
The comments from Durham on Wood must suggest they now have cash to spare on additional signings - if they can persuade anyone to sign on!

Durham must have money left in their players budget with or without Wood, they have only got about 12 players on their books at the moment. They must currently be well under the ECB sanction. They where the season just gone and they have lost a good half a dozen players from that squad and have only brought Smith in and renewed other contracts to current players.

Yep. There must be a fair amount to spend and they'll need to spend it wisely. It'll almost certainly involve taking a punt though because I can't imagine players queuing up to join! Unless there's someone out there who fancies taking on a big challenge.

Colly just been interviewed outside Gateshead Hilton prior to awards evening. Expressing disdain that players believe they have to leave Durham to further their ambitions. Fact is imo if they're that myopic we're better off without them.
Clearly we need to sign a couple of quality seamers with the right character. That won't be easy but it would be nice if the club gave some commitment towards this task when asking members to renew.

I agree. Durham have had so many players going on to player for England so it makes no sense for players to move - as you say though if they want to go we are better off.
Add those two quality seamers and the squad looks pretty decent.

I noted that Colly spoke of the need to recruit cricketers, over the winter, who are prepared to "fight for the badge".

I presume that means there is money available to do that

Wood has sadly played very little cricket in the 10 years he has been at the club. Just one of those things i suppose with an explosive bowling action like that his body is just not up to the stresses and strains. Probably why you see very few bowlers of that style in county cricket when you are expected to play up to 15 championship matches in six months.

for about 3 years it seemed that he was only picked to play at Trent Bridge. I never understood the rationale behind that, tbh. Once he secured a decent run in the first team he quickly appeared on the England radar.

Collingwood contract for next year finally confirmed according to Emmerson. It seemed certain to be but still good to have it signed.

Gareth Harte second X1 player of the year - surely he will be given a contract for next year?

Rushworth won bowler of the year. According to Marty when Coggers received the fielding award he thanked everyone at the club for helping his development since he was 15 years old - I bet that went down well with Colly!

Cameron Steel was breakthrough player of the year at the awards dinner. Colly batsman of the year and won the vote for player of the year by the members and also the players player of the year.
Another 5 years from him and we might get back on course!
