Durham Match Thread 2026

I watched the highlights and some of the bowling was really poor. There was a lot of bowling on leg, which is meat and drink to our top order and a fair few half volleys. Maybe it won't be so tough on our bowlers after all, although we can't simply rely on BR and MP to show up this week

Having secured 5 batting points, I'm a bit uncertain as to how long we should bat for. There can be a temptation to bat on too long, but we might be helped out by our tendency to collapse in a middle order heap. I think we should aim to bat a second time to give our two bowlers a rest, so maybe bat until lunch, add a 100+ and hope Bangers doesn't score the inevitable double ton to take a big chunk out of our total and a load of time out of the game. We can't bowl as poorly as they did though.... surely?

Outfield was lightning fast yesterday. Little nudges and gentle flicks were flying to the boundary

Yes, short boundary on one side. Seems as if there might be some rain this afternoon. I'd also bat until lunch, scoring quickly though so maybe a little earlier.

well that all worked out rather well. Declare on 605 with 2 overs to play before lunch and lift the wicket of the old boy with the 3rd ball

In the tier 1 match, we are getting a kicking. Lancs currently 264-2 with more than 7 overs to go

we usually only have about 200 runs in us

the Cricketer described Hollie A as the most highly regarded captain in tier 1 cricket. High praise..... she'll have her work cut out in this game

Lancs did score 300

it turns out we probably don't have 200 runs in us. 135-7

I see Lauren Filer only bowled 5 overs. I was a bit surprised to see her name on the sheet, so maybe we were under orders over her workload

and never mind 200 runs, we might not even have 150 in the side if the overseas player doesn't score a half century. That certainly felt like the pattern last year with Suzie Bates

Seemingly we were in negotiations to bring her back for this year, but she got injured in December and didn't sign. Shame

KR's figures look a lot better today, despite the short boundary and the fast outfield

Having seen the highlights, KR seems to bowl a lot of wide long hops. 2 of his 3 wickets came from the batter chasing wide stuff and edging behind. The Bancroft wicket was also wide, but it jagged back sharply and wrapped Bangers on the pad, outside the line of off, but offering no shot

All in all, we have to be pleased with the way today went. Full on slog mode this morning to reach 600 in 114 overs and then reducing Gloucs to 168-8, in two stop start sessions. There was the usual 50 run lower order stand, of course, between Miles and Taylor. 59 runs in 9 overs of mayhem

Will we enforce the follow on tomorrow? The bowlers have not had to do a huge amount of work today (44 overs) If we pick up the last 2 early, we might decide to carry on bowling, especially given that we have Parky to bowl at one end all day if we want him to and plenty of runs to play with
