Never a bad time for a record partnership but that one couldn't have been better timed. Was fearing the worst after the early stumbles.
Batting did look straightforward during that partnership so I'd expect some resistance from Lancs second time around. So much time left in the game though.
Hopefully these two can get set again in the morning and we can get the lead up towards 300. Couple of wickets could ruin that plan of course.

Ackermann is definitely a number 6 in this team. I think that is his second hundred from there, whereas his runs at 3 were modest at best.

Bedingham goes back to the top of the table for runs, where he belongs, after missing 2 matches.

I think we've strengthened wisely for next year, with Gay alongside Lees, Rhodes at 3, Bedders, Robbo, Ackers. There's a lot to like in that top 6, I reckon

Is that a record stand, capt? Against a kookaburra, of course, but Lancs didn't do it when it was their turn. Hopefully we'll get maximum batting points in the morning. Weather looks fine for the next 2 days, so we are in a very good position as things stand. Maybe the new signing will turn up tomorrow.... fingers crossed

no, I'm wrong. Ackers got 112 at 3 v Essex. He did get 73 at 6 though in the reverse fixture at Chelmsford

Yes, record 5th wicket partnership. Previous best was Bedingham and Eckersley against Notts in 2021.
Bedingham 3 hundreds in 3 innings this year against Lancashire and 6 for the season.
It seems as if Emilio Gay is available for selection, suspect he won't play because the obvious one to miss out would be Borthwick and I'm not sure it'd be worth upsetting the apple cart with a couple of games to go..Although the alternative view would be if we feel we are safe going into those final games it might be worth letting him have a couple of games ahead of next season.

I think you're right about him being better suited down the Order.

Bedingham's interview was interesting. Very critical about the Kookaburra ball experiment and said he hopes it's discontinued.
He said as a batter he's happy to face it bit it's not good for the game in English conditions.

the lead is approaching 300. At what point do we declare? Presumably we give Ackers the chance to claim a double hundred, do we give Bedders the chance of a triple?

Ackerman loves a big 5th wicket stand, because he and Mulder hold the all-time county record set against us at Hove recently.... was near 500 runs.

Chet Pujara very happily accepted the declaration that day, because they declared just short of his own all-time record, set in the Ranji trophy with Ravi Jadeja some years ago.

Think it was just over 500 (like 505 or something).... wonder if Durham will bat on to have a go at it.

Definitely. Unless they capitulate it could be hard work bowling them out especially if Holder's first innings struggles are repeated. Parkinson might have a lot of bowling to do.
