Patterson, Ballance, Bess, Brook, Coad, Fraine, Kohler-Cadmore, Leaning, Lyth, Olivier, Pillans, Tattersall, Willey

Yorks v Essex today in Leeds. Still no Tim. Huddersfield born Fraine is a batter who was recently at Notts.

Unexpectedly good start for Yorks.

Maybe I'm still sleeping.

Brown seems to be in decent form for Sussex.

Yep. Think he had about 3 or 4 ducks almost in a row at the start of the season but now 3 hundreds in a row.

Popped over to Headingley for the afternoon session. Kohler-Cadmore looking very elegant in the middle, his footwork against spin and shot selection is absolutely top drawer. Two straight drives for four off Sam Cooks bowling for four and hitting Harmer straight over his head for six a particular highlight.

Adam Lyth looked like he was batting with freedom and expression, perhaps opening with Will Fraine took some considerable pressure off. He was rather unlucky to miss out on a century, out to a good back of a length straight delivery off Porter that got a bit of lift and was caught behind. Ravi Bopara looked deceptively quick for someone who is classed for a medium pace bowler and got some uneven bounce front of a length.

It was actually refreshing to see Essex bowl ahead of the over-rate and go through their "middle overs" rather quickly despite the wickets not falling, perhaps a strategy devised by McGrath and Tendoeschate.

91 unbeaten for Bess. Maybe Yorks batted too long though, with rain around.

Coad gets Captain Steely sharpish. Nineteen to go.

Prodding away at an outswinging delivery to slips, foot work like lead. Any calls for Cook to return to the England squad are based on nostalgia.

Six down now. Not sure there's anything in this game for Yorks, but they've been doing well recently, even when not always winning. Starting to think they won't go down.

4-12 for Jeets. Pretty poor from Notts.
