I think the narrative of this goes much deeper.

We have almost forgotten the fact that a practicing Muslim was held down and forced to drink wine haven't we.....where's the banter there?

Apologies

I've conflated two stories....this was previous to Yorshire

"Rafiq says his first experience of racism in cricket came as a 15-year-old at Barnsley Cricket Club when, following victory in the league, he alleges he was “pinned down” by teammates and “forced to drink wine” despite being a practising Muslim."

Holly crap. That is plain abuse. So far beyond bullying.

Indeed. Racially motivated assault.

well now that the money is at risk, the board have suddenly discovered a moral compass. Perhaps it was hiding in a cupboard.

Rana Naved ul Hassan has confirmed the MPV remarks

Hopefully Vaughan won't lose his career because he may have made this comment. Any more than Ollie Robinson.

It's different with the Yorkshire board because they were actually responsible for the response to the enquiry. Although the chairman who resigned now seems to be blaming everyone else and claiming they were obstructing his far reaching reforms.

Vaughan's job is to critique people, if he's proven to have an established bias he can't do that. Many Indian fans on twitter have already been attacking him for very negative comments against Asian teams, and he's constantly making contentious statements about Indian cricketers and the Indian game. In light of his racist comments, I can't see how he can continue to commentate.

In fairness, he's become a toxic wild cannon and he's lucky he hasn't been sacked without this, considering he spends his days calling his viewing public nonces or what not.

Vaughan found a niche in being a WUM....he now needs to fall on that sword.

All for redemption, but I consider Vaughan already at the bar in the last chance saloon. Plus, he has to serve punishment before being given a chance.

Get the feeling if he's sacked, he will go the other way though. His political compass is pretty horrible, and the way he talks down to people really shows what kind of guy he is

My argument isn't that what Vaughan has been alleged to have said is acceptable, but I don't think it is unforgivable. Without the clue of his tone of voice, it doesn't have the aggressive intent of Darren Lehmann's comments. It sounds like he tried to make a joke to break the ice and offended because he thinks racist banter is normal and ok. And it's not, but he could come to understand that.

Regarding bias, well that kind of commentary partiality (think Boycott) I find very annoying. Like Botham thinking it's funny to stereotype Aussies. Indian commentators (up to when I stopped getting Sky) were as bad as anyone in being partial. But if it isn't racist, then I'd leave it with the producers to educate the experts that being insulting isn't funny.

The impression I get from Vaughan (remember his comments on Trump) is that once he leaves the stadium he isn't all that bright. Though that's no excuse, it may be a factor.
