unsurprisingly we've been asked to bat

one of the easier decisions that a visiting captain will ever have to make.... much easier than trying to predict a head or a tail

Overcast too - at least it is here a mile or two from CLS. I'm popping down after lunch...for the start of Worcs innings!

Lulling them into a false sense of security- Pringle will get at least 5 in the second innings.

Although in their defence somebody here told me conditions this morning were ideal for bowling- this uncontested toss rule is a problem.

Play due to resume at 3.15 and would you believe it - it has clouded over again so either we'll get more rain or it'll be terrible conditions for batting. Even Nathan 'Lara' Rimmington might struggle.
One other odd thing- just noticed the lights are off and I'm sure they were on before.

Another brief passage of play and now another break for bad light and/or rain. Miraculously we have not lost a wicket amidst the on off passages of play. 87/6.

even worse than I feared


and at the risk of upsetting anyone our first innings scores deteriorated immediately after we employed a new groundsman..... and historically they were never great, I know that..... and our entire top order was ripped away from us, I know that too........ but really!

I can still remember talking to Southwood and the Capt at the ground, where we wondered if the enormous first innings scores were as a result of pitch preparation in the absence of the heavy roller.... this was when we were conceding 300 run partnerships on day one of matches at the riverside. Something fundamentally has changed about the pitch or the way it is prepared and it started before the mercenaries jumped

I hope it ssipes it down in CLS for the next 3 days

Ball jagging around. If we can get 150 and conditions don't change it might be a handy score. Trouble is I don't think we'll get that many and the forecast is ( or was ) better for tomorrow.
