Lancs are batting and Carse is going for plenty of runs again.
Maxwell and Faulkner are playing, so is Jennings.
Rimmington has a wicket with his first delivery.

We'll have to get 200 plus!
Unless it's a ridiculous pitch and short boundaries I say are chances are zero unless Short gets about 100 of them.

That went well! Lancs a top side so I'm not too disappointed and won't read too much into the result apart from wondering if this lineup, especially with Bancroft, missing will either set or chase the sort of totals that are regularly required these days. Should be ok if the ball is on top but that doesn't happen much!

I think most of us regard slap and giggle cricket as a light hearted interlude between the real cricket so I look for signs of development towards the proper game. Hints,in these last 2 games, that Potts and Steel could progress.Potts,at very least, could provide economy and Steel stabilise the problem No5 position.

Potts bowled as well as anyone I've seen in T20 the other night

even in a big total game, both he and Rimmer turned in very acceptable economy figures. They surely have to form the basis of our T20 seam attack. Trouble is we need another 2, and surprisingly Raine looks vulnerable.

If Carse is the best of the rest, then I think we need to assess where he slots into the attack.

It probably sounds daft, but bizarrely, he may need to bowl 3 of the PP overs, even if they are the only overs he bowls. Having the field up may help him to take wickets, and because he doesn't seem to offer anything in the way of economy, his figures in the first 2 games suggest that he is unlikely to build pressure in any other way than by taking those wickets.

I'm happy with Potts bowling 2 at the top and 2 at the end, and Rimmer bowling 1 PP and 3 death overs seems to work, so that feels covered. Is Carse the best option we have?

Batting looks vulnerable with short boundaries and flat pitches. Bangers return will help that. When is he due to return?

Why isn't Harte playing? Would he not offer something with both bat and ball?

I think Bancroft was due to miss the first 3 games so he'll be absent at Leicestershire on Friday.
Agree about Carse, he definitely has something about him but it's the old problem of pace on the ball and T20.

I've always thought that way in the past, but I'm coming towards the view that the club needs to become a top T20 outfit to survive financially in a post apocalyptic Hundred world, particularly as I'm fairly confident that it will be some time before we will be able to challenge for honours in the top echelons of the County Championship.

The difference in atmosphere at home games when the team is winning rather than being humiliated in 2017 fashion must have a very positive impact on attendance.

There is no reason why pace can't be unplayably destructive in T20 with short boundaries, but it has to be extreme pace and it has to be extremely accurate, and I'm not sure there are many bowlers who can do that................ and those that can, tend to be lured away by the big money franchises

back in 2017, people were regularly streaming out of the ground after the second innings power play, irrespective of whether we were chasing or defending

that has to be avoided at all costs

it was awful and it must have been demoralising for the players too. Imagine playing in an environment where the biggest noises are not cheers, but groans of despair and howls of outrage?

Our game plan at home with the long boundaries( comparatively), swift running between wickets and in fielding has been quite effective, that keeps the crowd happy so getting beat away shouldn't be too disastrous.Whitehead(or Pringle) for Carse is the only improvement I can think of plus,of course, the return of Bangers or a replacement.

Yep. It can be highly effective but such small margins for error.

I agree. At one of the forums last year one attendee was complaining to Lewis about the long boundaries saying that T20 should be about big hitting with lots of boundaries. Lewis responded by saying the best way to entertain the crowd is by winning and the longer boundaries suit us.
I thought Franklin was implying he was going to bring those boundaries in, fortunately I was wrong. Think we have little chance of coming out on top of high scoring games so to have home advantage we want long boundaries.

Signs of a return to form for Cameron Steel, batting most of the day on what appears to be a challenging wicket. A. Robson is,I'm certain, Angus Robson, ex Leics and Sussex opener, younger brother of Sam, Middlesex. 17 year old Doneathy also a fine prospect.
