I'm absolutely thrilled for him

Brilliant, seemed nerveless and in control. Probably would have had 5 for - according to the Sky commentators it's cramp as opposed to an injury l. Let's hope so, Eoin Morgan said it might have been down to adrenaline.

Morgan also said he'd never played against Potts, but Potts caught him in one of the Silly matches, so he can't have been paying attention

the T20 match on Wednesday was marketed as a double header.... twice the cricket for your money

except the women's game started early afternoon when everyone is at work and it finished at 5pm...... a whole hour and a half before the men's match started

I have no idea what the attendance was for either game, but my guess is that the 'double header' will have done absolutely nothing to increase attendance at either match

Surely it shouldn't be beyond the wit of the club to start the Diamonds match at 4pm or 4.30 and the mens match to start immediately after at say 7pm. We have lights, we're heading towards the longest day and there was no school the next day for any kids that went. More people could have wandered down after work to catch the second half of the Diamonds before the main event. No time to go home for your tea first so buy it at the ground while you're enjoying yourself

Unless the start times are dictated to us, which I doubt, then we seem incapable of helping ourselves. Don't schedule these things at times least likely to generate crowds... don't ask people to stand around for an hour and a half twiddling their thumbs..... give them a reason to go... give them a good time and you never know they might come back more often

It seems like a no brainer to me

Double headers are the brainchild of ECB who's logic is wholly illogical so naturally it's all confusing. T20 was invented because a traditional day of cricket lasted 7hrs and that was considered too lengthy for the modern attention span hence the emergence of a shorter form of the game. This proved quite popular so ECB decided to give spectators a double dose of the feature so the whole event now lasts 7 hours. I realise that now totally conflicts with the original concept which proves my original point that ECB logic is wholly illogical. Simple really.
It's similar logic with the Hundred which was intended to further simplify the game with 20 5 ball overs thus enabling innumerate spectators to count the number of balls on one hand. There were also other subtle amendments intended to further further simplify but they proved so complex that they had to create a mid-innings break so captains could work out what the f*ck was going on.
Simple really.

T20 was supposed to be a fast game. The last over had to have commenced by the 75th minute of the innings or run penalties were applied. Batsmen ran on and off, they had bikes to keep themselves warm before running on. the whole thing was done and dusted in well under 3 hours. Then the time element was allowed to lapse, batsmen sauntered on and off, fields were changed and changed again and the whole thing slowed down to the point where the ECB decided to invent a new even shorter game that could be played in under 3 hours :stupid

given that the ECB have adopted an all eggs in one basket approach with the scheduling, it now seems as if the weather is going to be questionable. Rain forecast for tomorrow afternoon and then the general weather deteriorating to more windy and rainy conditions from Wednesday onwards. In other words nearly 50% of this season's cash cow for the county is at a real risk of losing all its passing trade. I have no doubt that some cricket will be played but if the weather is looking iffy for a week, then people who haven't got a season ticket or haven't already arranged tickets in advance will have no incentive to pop down for the night, which is perhaps not the smartest way for a business to maximise its revenue

Yes, it did seem odd scheduling ( again) but I was actually surprised at the size of the crowd for our game. Trapdoor stand was closed but it looked like a healthy attendance. Possibly a unique set of circumstances- excellent weather and with the jubilee bank holidays.

Tbh, I was thinking more of the women's game. If the point of a double header is to try and get more people to give watching women's cricket a try, which I imagine it is, then why leave an hour and a half between matches?
