Dawson was dropped in the slips on 4 and then dropped in the slips again on 8 (Yorkshire also missed the chance to run him out shortly after that), so it's not just Terry who found it hard going.

Dawson isn't a CC1 class opener either.

I do agree. I think his/our problem is that he hasn't been able to nail down a place in the middle order. Had he consistently scored runs at 4 - 6 in the order in the past, then he wouldn't find himself opening so often.

Four games, four horrid middle order performances. Vince is grossing under-performing, but Smith is having a total and utter shocker. Horror season for Smith so far.

I'd go as far as saying that even given Smith's brilliant debut season for us last year, if McManus scores runs in both innings here and Smith fails in the second innings, then McManus probably has to start ahead of Smith in our next CC game (assuming that Wheater is fit again).

With our middle order failing every game and our bowling attack not good enough at this level, you can't see where a win is going to come from, even against the supposed weaker sides like Somerset and Worcs.

Thankfully as little as three wins may be enough. And I honestly do believe that we're better than Somerset and Worcs. It's not going to be a pretty season at this rate (as no different to when we were last up here!), but I think we'll drag ourselves over the line.

Kabir has retired (due to the shoulder injury he picked up against us at Finals Day last season, which ultimately led to Freddie playing in the final). His two years with us might not have been the best in the world, but I'll always remember him fondly for bowling that final over of the 2012 Lords final. And in particular, bowling that final ball. Thank you Kabs for your contribution in us winning that one-day final.
