The moment Somerset selected van der Merwe, you knew they had reverted to type pitch-wise.

Benco seems to be injured. Didn't bat for unknown reasons. Yorks lost 6-17 this morning.

Absent through illness apparently, according to Yorkshire twitter he probably won't play any part today.

One of those scores that might actually be ok. We'll see. Five wickets before tea to the spinner on day one suggests chasing might be fraught.

88-5. 199 looking some way off.

Most wickets in this match have fallen in the morning session, which suggests underlying dew is making the pitch lively to start off with.

Pitch appears to be more settled now, live stream on this link if you're bored.

Poor old Simon Harmer. He's had to bowl 60 overs, take 6 wickets, hold on to 3 catches and effect a run out just to keep his side in the blooming game. Next he'll have to score a hundred too. He's clearly wasted down there... he needs to relocate to CLS asap. I'll find him some digs... good ones too, or at least good enough for Edam Hazard, 2 metre Feta, Toddy and even Sir Mo when he comes up for Great North Run day

Notts opened batting with Slater and Libby in first innings and now Duckett and Mullaney in 2nd, I don’t recall a team ever doing that before

Very strange decision. The Notts wheels seem to be well and truly off.

Somerset are going to win at a canter, so I'd imagine Essex will be looking to cut some sort of deal before long.... which if they do (I hate cutting deals) will hopefully screw up any hopes they have for winning on the last day of the season

It depends. Essex would be wise not to forgo batting points, and assuming that they do then go for them, they'll be so little time left.

With Somerset getting no batting points, an Essex draw with 4 or 5 batting points would still see them eat right into Somerset's 16 win points.
