I know Andre Adams has been a top class performer for many years but this stat surprised me:
@OptaJim: 339 - @AndreAdams (339) has taken 58 more wickets than anyone else in Championship Division One cricket since the start of 2008. Giant.

That's a wonderful record and he had some useful batting efforts as well.

Given that we're a third of the way through the D1 season, I guess it's time for some averages:

If there's one consolation we have, it is that only three sides have lost fewer matches than us. Worcs have lost twice as many as we have. Clutching at straws, I know. But hey, we're less than one win away from overtaking three teams. We're hardly cut adrift. Yet.

Lost the toss, Sussex are batting, I'm expecting a battering.

Tommo's form since the opening game, when taken as stand alone hard, cold statistics, means that him being dropped is totally understandable. But I would point out that he's spent this whole season so far as the leader of our attack, usually with very little to support him. So it becomes an easy mindset for opposition batsmen to just see Tommo off, and hit the rest of the attack.

With Bird and Fidel both playing here, and continuing to both get closer to full match fitness, there was maybe the opportunity to put Tommo down to being our third seamer - which in D1, I think is Tommo's level. He doesn't have the pace to lead a D1 attack. But instead we've just jumped straight to dropping him altogether.

Likewise, based on hard, cold statistics, Dawson can have no complaints at all at being dropped. But when you consider that it's Terry who has come in for him, then I think if I was him then I would have every reason to complain.

Dawson simply can't get past 40 this season, although he has taken part in some decent opening partnerships.

But to drop him for Terry if that is what has happened is ridiculous, his CC record albeit short is very poor, and I rate him a poorer bet to Gatting if he's still on our books? Does the Terry name still have a big influence at Hants!

I'm still not totally convinced by Berg, but it can't be denied that he has done alright with the ball since joining us. Our only seamer who you can put a tick next to in D1 so far.

Indeed. An opener who two roles. To score runs, like any batsman, and also to see off the new ball. As you allude to, Dawson has actually been quite successful so far this season in doing the latter role. Yes it's Dawson's fault for then getting out before he can get to 40, but it's not his fault that the middle order have failed to capitalise on coming in when the ball is a bit older and the first or second change bowler is on.

Assuming that Terry opens, rather than promoting Carberry back up (Terry opening was what happened the other week, when Adams missed out), can anyone really see him doing either of those two roles?

This partnership has just wrestled some of the initiative back towards Sussex, but nevertheless they remain on dodgy ground at lunch. Add two wickets to this current score, and we're well on top.

200 is a good score this year at Hove, the wickets are challenging to say the least.

Considering you were 200-4 after choosing to bat, I'd say its a great effort.
