What was the thinking between playing what is probably a pointless ODI series in the middle of a test series?

Contractual obligations, I think

back log of series caused by the pandemic which have to be played or presumably the ECB will have to give all the money back.... and we know how the ECB feel about giving money back

Netherlands is what.... an hours flight? The first match doesn't start until the 17th. Not sure I understand why they're already off. I just assumed Carse would still be available for this match tomorrow

so we've signed Sowter on loan for a month because of a long term injury to Capt 0-96....... who suddenly, and presumably miraculously, is playing again after missing just one match

I think I can guess what Franklin's game is here. Maybe with 4 loan signings in just a couple of weeks he isn't as in control of things as he thought he was and he's covering his @rse and pretending that these weren't mistakes after all..... just an efficient and speedy response to injury and call ups

Seemingly, capt beaky had an injection in his wrist on Friday to try and keep him in contention for today. Signing Sowter hopefully means he won’t feature again in the t20. Maybe the penny has finally dropped?

Going along nicely here. The new boy looks a good player and he’s slotted in seamlessly here, which doesn’t always happen. Signs perhaps that this is another flat deck. Capt beaky going along nicely too, so the injection must have done whatever it was supposed to do

Just about to head down. Seems to have been a surprisingly solid morning. When Emmerson mentioned a green tinge to the pitch and it looked overcast I wondered it batting was a risk? Given the lack of specialist batsmen we wil have to be careful - must have a good total on the board before the all-rounders are in.

Only one slight alarm when capt beaky got hit on the hand. Not sure if it was the one that needed the injection or not, but he looked in some discomfort for a moment or two. Edged the next ball which looped up but fell short of the fielder. Since then both batters have been in no trouble at all. Ball has been changed at least once already

All of a sudden capt beaky is getting excitable. He’s just edged one past the diving second slip which a 3rd slip would have gobbled up, then he has wild swipe and a big miss at the next. Calm down son

No such alarms at the other end. Just a sedate move onto 83 runs

Ton for Ravindra. Batting looks easy on this pitch, but he looked very proficient. The closest I saw him come to a false shot was a inside edge onto his pad.
