Trevaskis out for a quick 28 and declared on 516. I suspected we'd be bowling before lunch but I would have kept them in the field into the afternoon session.

6 wickets for 550 ish runs in 4 sessions.
Looks as if getting 1 wicket is cause for celebration let alone 20.
Suppose someone could get on a roll, nip a few out and then scoreboard pressure might come into play but these conditions - and a makeshift attack- don't look at all promising. If only we could have had Potts.

Robbo made the call, Ackers threw down the stumps with barely one stump to aim at. It was an unneccesary risk from Robbo, but 95 times out of a hundred they'd have got away with that

worryingly from a bowling perspective, Jonesy, Borthwick, Lees, Clark and Trev got themselves out and Bedders dismissal came from a daft bit of luck

Hill gifts his wicket

I think Handscomb was caught off a Parky no ball. He's bowled a lot of them 4 by my count. If that didn't take the edge, then it would have been extravagant turn. I think it took the edge. Careless if it was. Handscomb can bat all day

Yes, this is a big partnership and he's not someone you want to give a second chance to.

North and Campbell have got most things right in this new era - even the T20 defeats have usually been smallish margins- but I don't know why they didn't strengthen the seam bowling options. We knew Potts would be involved with England and Carse and Coughlin likely to ( at least) miss as many games as they play...and if Carse did stay fit for any length of time he would be on the England radar.
You could say it's unfortunate that all 3 are missing at the same time but not surprising. Need to have a couple of bowlers in reserve to fill the gap between the first choice ones and the rookies. I know Bedingham has been modest in T20 but it comes to something that we have to leave him out because of a thin bowling squad!
It's similar with the batting too - just as well there haven't been any injuries or drastic loss of form because there's no cover there either.

we keep chipping away. Handscomb now gone for 50 runs more than I think he should have

Mulder in next. It would be very helpful if we didn't give him a life too

well presumably the signings will take care of the batting next year. I still think Trev could be a red ball batter, then there's Bushnell and McKinney, with Bushy offering a 4th seamer option.

I thought Stan looked very good for 4 of his 5 overs. Just that last one that got a bit of tap

Yes, think he has the potential and so do a lot of the younger players but just feel we need a bit more experience in the squad. Can't compete with Surrey obviously but when Cameron Steele got a hundred at the start of the season he said he knew he'd be left out when others were available. For some reason that game was on Sky and the commentators were saying players who can come in for a game here and there and plug a hole are important with players away playing franchise tournaments, with England etc.
I used to assume it was a fairly skeletal squad because we were on a low budget but not sure now.

Trevaskis though is the type I think we need more of - never going to be a world beater but usually good in white ball games, good with the bat in red ball games and can contribute with the ball- as Handscomb has just found out!

hard chance... inside edge off Parky to Clark under the lid. Couldn't quite get down in time, but it was there to be had

Stan has lost control in his second spell. Firing full tosses down leg, front foot no balls, no balled on height, wides. The second of this spell was a 9 ball over.

Is there the outside possibility of Potts being sent up the road tomorrow if he isn't named in the Lords XI?
