I wondered if that still stood. Maybe because of all those early morning September collapses over the years.

Yep. When Stoneman was approaching his hundred the commentators mentioned the last century in a Lords final was by Nick Knight in ( I think ) 2005.

Hales has now equalised the highest one day score at Lords. 166 made by David Boon v MCC in 1989.

Given that all Notts really needed was someone to keep Hales company, you couldn't really have asked for a more perfect man than Read.

In Stoneman's defence though, he found himself batting with a string of bits and pieces cricketers, rather than a rock like Read.

But yes, he also doesn't have the attacking class of Hales.

With anybody else you would say that Notts would reach the victory target first. But the way Hales has played, there's no reason to think he wont score most of these remaining runs himself.
