I just think they have made their offer and stick to it. If they now go offering a deal twice as long as the original then why didn't they offer that in the first place to one of the counties greatest servants. It makes you realize why agents have become more prominent in the game if they did that.

we will all remember what happened the last time we offered a long contract to proactively keep an experienced player at the club. If we keep losing players we might do that again, but I'm not sure we should

I'm going to be controversial here but I don't mind if Onions does leave. Age and injuries are against
It would give our younger bowlers more opportunities andwe might as well do it while we're in division 2. Bear in mind we don't know how much longer Rushy will go on for but he can't go on forever especially as he has carried our bowling quite a lot in the last few years.

Onions has been a great servant but maybe it's time to move on.

I thought Onions signed his own letter of resignation by going public to deliver the ultimatum of a 2 year contract. He clearly doesn't want to move for domestic reasons so why not accept that one year offer and continue on a year on basis. By delivering that ultimatum he'll now have to lose face to accept the original offer. Durham have called his advisors bluff.

Yes, I think that'd be sensible for player and club- a rolling one year deal. If things go well he could even end up having more than two years.

Some interesting info on ECB grant allocation. So we get £100k a year each for Wood, Stoneman, Stokes and Jennings whilst they're playing for England as their nursery club.

That's not a bad compensation - although are we able to benefit from it now with FTECB imposing that lower salary cap.

Seems to refer to individual players but perhaps the amount per player depends on other factors - the wording is a big ambiguous in the article. " Can earn in excess of £100k" could be interpreted as meaning you can earn a lot less than that as well.

each, I see.... and 'in excess of'

so does that mean we get money for Plunkett, too, or did his England career end and then restart after moving to yorks?

Sir Ian just been discussing his comments about the conflict issue with Nasser during the rain break. He didn't say Newell approached Coughlin, he said agents will use Newell and Fraser as bait i.e. I'll get you a contract at Notts or Middlesex where there's an England selector. Nasser in total agreement with Nasser that compensation agreement at present is wholly inadequate.
Athers in the Times agrees and said Sorry are putting forward a proposal that compensation should be levelled at double the size of the contract the poached club has offered the player.Sorry are apparently narked at Sibley being poached. They wouldn't bebaulked by such levies but it would certainly make other poachers like Yorkshire and Notts think twice.

That's not a bad idea from Sorry. Ironically though they probably wouldn't have lost Sibley if they hadn't taken both Borthwick & Stoneman.
