Congrats to BR and Pottsy. when I went back out with play delayed, I reckoned that if we came back out, even for an hour, that we'd lose. Well they did and we didn't thanks to them

If we'd lost that match, and we deserved to, our goose would have been cooked. We'd better hope that we play better than that against Worcs and we'd better pray for better weather, because only a win next week will do

Hants have now dropped into the danger zone thanks to an 8 point pitch deduction

Very fortunate to get out of it with a draw thanks to the weather and that Raine Potts stand. As of now the forecast for next week isn't great and I wonder what kind of pitch we'll have, do we take a risk and prepare a result wicket?

whenever we've prepared green tops, we've tended to lose

however, with so much weather about next week, there are likely to be a lot of draws. We can't be relied upon to take a high scoring draw, because we can't score runs and we can't take wickets, so only a win will do next week

Woody might play and screw us up by pulling something early. Bedders hasn't got any runs in him at all. We might as well play Rhodes as an all rounder, because Connors hasn't got any wickets in him and we don't possess a reliable spinner capable of creating any sort of pressure

I've already accepted that we won't be playing Leicester next season

According to The Guardian Wood won't play either of the last 2 games because they're taking an ultra cautious approach with him.

I had a wander down to watch the women earlier. Surrey look set for something approaching 300, which is too many for us. No members lounge today, it has been moved upstairs to the Colin Milburn suite, whose balcony has cushioned seats very comfy. Sadly it started to rain so I had a bit of a wander until the sun came back out, with the groundsmen standing around the covers on the square and looking at the sky. I went and renewed my membership for next year, came out quarter of an hour later with the sun still shining, to find the ground staff still rooted to the spot looking up at the sky with all the covers still on, so I gave up and came home. My days of standing around waiting for the covers to come off have long gone

In order to auto subscribe every year, I was told that all I had to do was log into the club website and tick the appropriate box. But there's nowhere on the site to log in. I tried it from my phone using the password reset email that they sent me and that did get me logged in, but there is no box to tick, which is somewhat less than helpful..... It's easy, he said, just log on and tick the box. The account also suggests checking personal details to ensure that they're up to date, but there's no way of actually doing it as far as I can tell

The site is just rubbish, really..... either that, or I'm as thick as mince...... which is entirely possible

Every other site that go on has a log in bit at the top and once logged in has an account button with selections for changing details..... not this one. A click on the account button gives me the option to buy international tickets, find out where the ground is and read the club's terms and conditions.... because that really helps, presumably

the rain will come and we'll probably be set a DL target of 320 in 40 overs, because it makes no sense

I was only half joking about the DL score

13 runs taken off and 7 overs less to get them. Not even 2 an over

Surrey scored at 6 an over and we have to go at over 7 an over to make it fair

and the game has been stopped again, so goodness only knows what we'll be asked to get if more overs are knocked off

academic for us anyway, because Somerset won their game with a bonus point, which means we'd have to knock off our target in about 25 overs to match them

still..... all that being so, the girls have surprised me this year. After looking like bottom of the table fodder a few matches into the season, they have rallied and put together a steady enough campaign. For what I've seen, there are some young players in the side with the potential to be real assets in the future

It would have been nice to have had some sort of access to our sole current England player, but there you go, if you choose an England bowler rather than batter, then the chances of actually having them available to select are remote. With our experience of men's England internationals, I'd have thought we'd have been aware of this by now.

still off for rain, even though it isn't, but I know for certain that this match will continue to at least 1 ball past the no result threshold, because Surrey can still finish 4th and make the SF's with a win today and so the chances of the match being called off are zero even if it it only stops raining for a few minutes. They'll get out there and play to that point in the rain if necessary, which I'm sure will delight Somerset

speaking of rain, I was looking at the pitches today to try and work out what the plan is for Monday. The plastic sheets on the square were covering everything pavilion side of today's pitch, which is over by the old scoreboard, so we clearly aren't planning to use this same pitch.

None of the other pitches more centrally looked like they'd had any sort of preparation done, but there was a brown mat out at the opposite end, so it may be that one, in which case we'll have a really short boundary next to the pavilion..... something especially designed for Jake Libby to fill his boots on, perhaps

the match was stopped again and the DL score was revised again....... to 224 in 29 overs, some 70 runs more than Surrey reached in their first 29 overs, which tells me everything I need to know about DLS...... 60 odd runs knocked off at a cost of 19 overs.... a fifth of the runs deducted for two fifths of the overs all while stopping and starting and dodging the showers.

unsurprisingly he didn't appear for the Essex game. I presume we've brought him in to have a proper look at the lad ahead of our div 2 campaign next season.

News to me too. Definitely worth looking at because I don't think Drissell or Parkinson are particularly effective red ball spinners.
Forecast for next week is getting worse.
