Steve Smith got a duck for NSW in the Sheffild Shield lst night and Wee Davie a ton. Some turnaround from the Ashes for both.

I'll bet wee Davey was cacking himself in the days leading up to the match, just in case Queensland had signed him for one match as an overseas player

The most rank wide half volley you will ever see, only for Steve Smith to slash at it and nick off to slips :facepalm

Seems as if this a done deal. Not confirmed yet as far as I know but according to the BBC the deal is close to being done.

Sheffield Shield looks so strong when the international players are there. Look at NSW; and that's without Hazlewwood and Cummings. Admittedly, not as strong as the nineties.

The 100 draw hasn't attracted much interest.

Not so sure about that, I was glued to the live steam.

My gripe was hearing Katherine Brunt telling her life story, whilst the £60k players rolled in. I was more interested in Darren Lehmann signing Tom Kohler-Cadmore than where Brunt lived for the last 10 years. Promoting the womens game is one thing, but Parkinson type interviews about individuals is not equality.

I'm pretty excited about the Hundred. More so the new teams/players, rather than the format.

The franchise thing was always going to happen, agree that is the format that I just don't get.

T20 is fine. If you want something different, why not make it t10 but honestly T20 is clearly popular... Blast attendances have been great at games I've been at. Why create a new, stupidly convoluted format... If it ain't broken...

ECB idiots.

I watched the first half on youtube, and it felt like I was watching a low budget ITV gameshow that hits tv somewhere between 3am and 6am and hosted by Alan Partridge. We were still in the six figure signing period when the camera pans to Ravi Bopara sitting in the staff canteen drinking a mug of tea. Andre Russell was picked, interviewed by Rob Key looking to inject excitement into him for winning a contract 15 times lower than his IPL salary, gets nothing but "meh" responses, then the camera comes back 2 minutes later and Russell is taking a snooze. Ian Ward is wearing a shirt so tight it looks like it will explode. The latter thing provides the most tension.

The branding is terrible. The team names are frankly cheesy nonsense. Manchester Originals? What the hell does that mean? Why is my local team named after Native American warriors? The badges are all dull black and white and look like they were done in 5 minutes. The kits look tacky. At one point Marcus Trescothick and the Welsh Fire selection team stood together being interviewed, and looked like the worlds least glamorous pubs darts team.

Car crash nonsense. If they wanted to inject some slickness and excitement into it by holding the live auction, then my god they failed.

Sports teams' names are always cringeworthy apart from the ones that have some historic thread, typically the old seventies rugby league names aren't too bad, that point to the works teams that spawned them. Names that evoke climate extremes or combat are better ignored. And usually are- T20 names are normally tactfully overlooked.

The most disastrous part of the evening came when the "biggest" stars used in the promotion, Gayle, Malinga deCock and Rabada didn't attract bids. So we have a total of 22 overseas players participating, many of whom, because of International commitments, will only be available for part of the tournament. There'll be far more overseas players involved in the domestic T20.

The stupidity of having more marquee players than slots, then having those marquee players unavailable for selection later if they didnt meet their auction reserve, was an idea only the ECB could come up with.

Regardless of his ability at his age, Chris Gayle is worth 10 times his wage in ticket sales.... to not have him there is a major flaw. He is the kind of person which will get people driving 200 miles round trip in anticipation of it raining cricket balls.
