No slight domination, even in a comp with only 7 teams.

it reminds me of Newcastle Utd's domination of the Premier League

Interesting article in The Times today claiming that Glamorgan are going to be awarded more than £1m by the ECB " in return for forfeiting their status as a test venue."
If they choose to bid for tests after 2024 they "may have to pay back some of the money."

Perhaps Glamorgan will give that money back to the taxpayers who bailed them out?

Article mentions the multi-million debt write off and claims the test 'payoff' ,plus the extra funding all counties are getting as a result of the new T20 tournament ,should secure their financial future!

it seems the only bit they haven't got yet is the relegation (oops... that's hard) and the 48 point deduction, that they won't need, in order to keep them in Div 2 for a while

Article in today's Times reports that an overwhelming majority of counties are now in favour of a conference style championship I.e. 3 randomly drawn divisions of 6(10 games each) with each divisional winner playing each other to decide champion. Commence 2020. Players also lobbying union for significant pay rises reflecting rise in revenue from TV through Franchise T20.

I don't like the conference idea. Can understand the arguments that it would take away the 'stigma' of being in a second division and potentially make it easier to hold onto players but I think any advantages are more than cancelled out by the disadvantages - it seems to be a way of further marginalising FC cricket. The domestic first class game must be protected and test means ( imo ) a system where there are enough matches for it to me a meaningful competition and one where the best team wins. The suggestion in the article that a different team could win the CC every year is - for me - a massive reason why it is a terrible idea.

The format as of two years ago was perfect. Can't improve on that.

CC cricket will be marginalised by T20, financial considerations dictate that, difficult as it is to swallow for traditionalists like the vast majority of us who post on here.Paramount to me in the CC format is that each team must play each other an equal number of times if it is to retain credibility and if the only way that is feasible means less games so be it. Anyway would we really miss CC games played in early April?
Agreed the format of 2 years ago was ideal but FTECB vetoed that and players complained of excessive workload with, to be fair, some justification.

I think you're right - it is inevitable now that CC cricket will be of lesser importance and if fewer games is a price to pay for the system you suggest it will be an acceptable compromise that takes into account the financial benefits of T20.
