I have no problem with the premise of T10, its a step too far for me, but its a natural progression for the T20 lovers. Cut out all the BS, wickets hardly matter, just how many runs you can mow in 45 mins, then its all over. None of the filler, just power hitting all the way.
Having reviewed a better quality video of the Shehzad innings though, its a bit of a farce. He hits 5 or 6 maximums in about 10 balls, and none of them are out the middle of the bat. His first four he had one hand on the bat, his second he edged it, and then he bottom batted 5 or 6 wild slogs that carried into the stand. Every single shot he is playing on one leg, or off balance falling away.
Thats my problem with this sort of cricket. The ball doesnt swing, the pitches are roads, the bats used are all middle and so huge that any hack that thins the ball ends in the stand, or I say stand, but its really 40 yards away from the middle where they decide to cut the pitch short to increase scoring. Its not really a contest of bat and ball, just how lucky you are with where your non middled slog ends up.
It all feels a bit like if FIFA were to make the size of the goal 15 times bigger, then laud about how entertaining games that end 56-43 are..... If a six is scored 4 times an over, and thats normal, its no longer special or entertaining.
I want to see good play rewarded, but seeing Shehzad falling over decent yorkers and somehow managing to bottom edge them into the parking lot is.... well, not for me, lets say.
