In theory its a solid pick up, but England play 2 x T20 series this summer, and with his T20I record and his plus 40 average at a very high strike rate in this years blast, he must be confident he can pick up an IPL deal in this years auction. He tried last year and didnt get one, so I am guessing he will enter and have a chance now.

It would be ironic if Malan was to get an IPL gig next year, when Plunkett and Willey got hung out to dry for accepting IPL contracts at short notice.

His baldness, his weight of wickets and his longevity on the international stage makes it very hard to believe that Hampshire's new signing, Lyon, is only 31.

Doesn't really matter as spinners generally improve with age. Makes no difference, Hampshire still won't win anything.

Yorks sign Malan

Sussex sign Bopara

Surrey sign Hamish

Durham sign........ duh, duh, derrrrrr

Paul Coughlin :facepalm

this would be the same Paul Coughlin who stuck 2 fingers up at the club before enduring 2 injury ravaged years getting relegated with Notts, averaging nearly 50 with the ball..... the man for whom the expression 'can't bat, can't bowl, can't field' could have been invented

I danced with joy when he *modded* off..... he's that good!

pfffffft :no

We also managed to persuade our second most useless player to give up his Ireland ambitions so that he can continue to ruin our chances of competing in the Dribble next year

fortunately I haven't renewed my membership yet.... if these are the standard of player we are looking to bring in, now that we have plenty of cash to spend on players, then I may have to rethink that

(as far as I know, we are still in danger of falling foul of the minimum wage cap next year)

What have I missed?

Various news outlets are reporting that Handscomb (Middlesex) and McDermott (Derby) will be available for the 50 over competition next season. There's no mention that they're joining as kolpaks.

So have the ECB decided to allow overseas player in the 50 over competition after all? Or are the men running those two clubs completely clueless of the new rules?

Durham, on their own website, claim Bancroft will be available in all 3 formats. Perhaps it's because the ban of overseas players in the RL50 has so little press.

the King of Spain has said that it is perfectly possible, after next year (of course), for CC matches to be played during the 1/100. So presumably it is just next year that the ECB are sh1t scared about.

From what we have been told, it makes zero sense under the new rules.

Handscomb is a British Citizen, so he could qualify as a domestic player, but he's still captaining Victoria this winter and has played for Australia between 1st April 2019-2020, so he would instantly be disqualified as a domestic player for the 2020 Season. And McDermott I think is just a straight up Aussie, so a clear overseas player. My guess is the ECB have backed down, which makes total sense because who wants to see county second XIs playing with no stand out talent.

Bit of a different note, but dual passport holders should not, imo, have to register as an overseas player. Imagine being British and not being able to play in England because you are considered foreign. Very dumb.

Draft 2020 schedule from The Cricketer.
The schedule – sent to county CEOs – sees three Championship matches in April and four in May. Then the Vitality Blast enjoys a run (May 28-June 7). A Championship match pops up in mid-June. Then more Blast matches (June 19-26). Then two four-day windows (starting June 28 and July 5).

The Hundred is poised to start on July 17, the ‘development’ 50-over tournament commencing a day later. The Blast quarter-finals are from August 18-21, then it is two Championship windows (August 23 and 29).

Blast Finals Day could be on September 5 (with a reserve day). Then two Championship windows (September 8 and 14). The 50-over final to be on September 19 (with a reserve day). And finally two Championship matches (September 21 and September 27 – going into the last day of the month)... later than ever before.

Rumour reaches us that this is the precursor to an announcement that two Championship matches will be culled come 2021, to 12 per side. Which presumably means teams in both Divisions One and Two will not play each other home and away (this is already the case in the top flight next summer). How much longer will it be before the magic number of 10 is reached – in line with the Sheffield Shield?

Final sentence appears to be inevitable if the hundred survives.
