Don't Yorks need batters, not pace bowlers?

Surprised Olivier has opted to sign a kolpak deal given his credentials have risen to a point he could bag a decent IPL deal and be an international player at the same time. Yorkshire did need another decent pace bowler in the rank with Brooks leaving for Somerset, while Bresnan and Patterson are entering the twilight of their careers, whereas Waite and Fisher have suffered long term injuries last year.

With how the county fixtures are scheduled, I think Yorkshire can manage without an overseas bat for the 1st two CC games and entire One Day Cup campaign. Makes more sense to get an overseas opener in Mid-May when they had a rest from international commitments and the World Cup squads are finalised.

Not so sure there'll be much available which each country having to commit 15 players to WC. The plus side to that is County attacks will be considerably weakened through the absence of overseas bowlers giving young county batsmen a one off chance to establish themselves against this weakened opposition. Doubt, however, that Yorkshire's answer to the Chuckle brothers will pick up on this.

I'm not sure if county bowling attacks will be weakened overall. From last year there's no Matt Henry or Neil Wagner as overseas players, the latter is not in New Zealand's white ball plans so Wanger could still be signed up. Dale Steyn's spell at Hampshire last year was relatively short.

One of the Curran brothers is likely to be unavaiable for Surrey, but Broad (Notts) and Anderson (Lancashire) will be available for their counties during June.

I have a sneaky feeling we might see Broad or Anderson coming back for the World Cup for one last ODI hurrah.

They won't risk Anderson according to this article.

Broad in the World Cup squad is plausible and an out of the box selection that Ed Smith would go for. I would rather have Broad in the World Cup squad than Archer.

Doesn't offer any batting or fielding and wasn't a good ODI bowler in his prime. I can see Anderson doing well, but surely England have moved on from both.

Have England moved on that much? A list of seam bowlers to play since Broad retired;

Sam Curran..... dropped after two games, his last he went for nearly 50 runs in 6 overs.
Tom Curran..... 20 odd games, econ rate of 6.25
Reece Topley.... not even got a county, basically acknowledged he can barely walk, let alone bowl anymore.
Craig Overton.... played once, got carted everywhere, never returned.
Jake Ball.... 18 games, averages 47 per wicket, 6.2 economy.
Toby Roland Jones... like Topley, hes pretty much dead from injuries
Olly Stone... Averages 97 at over a run a ball
Wood.... averages 45 per wicket, @ 5.6 per over.
David Willey.... averages 35 @ 5.7
Plunkett... Average 30, econ 5.9
Stokes... Averages 41, econ 6.1
Woakes ... average 32, econ 5.6

Broad..... taking the last half of his career, when scores in the game have gone up..... 5.3 econ, average 30. Thats better than any other seamer we have knocking around. Even if you want to compare the Bayliss years when scores have been at record highs, his Bayliss era econ is 5.5... which is better than anyone has managed. Broad actually said when he was dropped for a tour in 2015, that he wanted badly to play in the WC and would bust a gut to get back in the team, so there is no doubt he would be up for it.

Who has proved they are better than him, and is likely to be fit...... no one really. In fact, has the bowling per se been better without him? As an instantaneous like for like, New Zealand scored nearly 400, 350, 300, just under 300 (in a DL match) and 200 (chasing 400 plus) the series directly after he was dropped, which I am guessing on a match average, but have been somewhere at the top of that times worst ever bowling performance for England in a ODI series.

Andersons record between 2012-2016 looks like its been taken from a bygone era..... econs for the year as low as 4.2, highest of 4.71

England should literally be begging him to reconsider his retirement. Those figures in the post 2010 epoch are staggeringly good.
