Agnew wants to tear up the county championship and model it on the Hundred

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/60016410

Thank goodness he isn't over-reacting

If I understand him correctly, it's all the fault of the counties and that nice Mr Harrison will sort it all out :hmmm

This is the same Agnew who predicted England would get a draw 2-2, then when it went to 3-0, started lecturing us all as to why it was obvious it was going to happen and why did us stupid idiots think any difference.

He, like others, is protecting people. County cricket needs to take the whole blame, not the team management

Yes,ignoring the fact that England test team have been competitive over a period of 150 years with a County Championship of between 16-18 clubs.

And ignoring the fact that the team that beat us, when things were also looking dour, also talked about limited player pools and having to expand their own game.

SA have gone back to 15 provincial teams and ditched the franchises. In the gospel according to Agnew this would be classed as 'watering down'.

If I'd had more time this morning I'd have made those very points myself

In addition, in the period before the 2015 world cup shambles that lead the ECB to prioritise white ball cricket at any cost, England were the number one test team in the world

It's been blindingly obvious to even casual observers like me that demoting the county championship to the extreme margins of the season in pursuit of a 'profitable' summer would inevitably and inexorably lead to the demise of the England test team. How a self professed 'expert' like Agnew couldn't see that is quite frankly staggering.

I find it enormously telling that, given that his masters at the ECB have thrown everything they had (including all reason) into yet another, and even more spurious, but potentially lucrative white ball competition, his answer to all this is for the county championship to follow a 4 day Hundred model

2022 fixtures are out, with a big fanfare trumpeting the extra rounds of CC matches to be played in the 'height of summer'. 5 seemingly...... 2 in June and 3 in July..... although there is no evidence of that when Durham's fixtures are examined. Durham have one round in early June followed by 2 rounds in July which is precisely the same as it was last year.... although perhaps I'm being unfair... they are, after all, being played a week later to catch the full benefit of the summer

Durham still have 7 rounds back to back starting early April and there are still 4 rounds in September, so it's hard to see where all the fixture improvements are to be found

Seemingly even more exciting changes are planned for next year.... based on this year, I'm so excited by that, I can hardly contain myself

51 extras so far for Cardiff UCCE against Northants - 36 no balls! Also Adam Rossington has been replaced as captain- no explanation given other than he's currently unavailable for selection. Wonder what that's all about.

Didn't take kindly to being stripped of the captaincy.Snapped up by Essex immediately.

didn't realise that it was long as that

the table looked odd this year. lots of matches didn't seem to get played. As long as Boris doesn't become Australia's PM any time soon, that should have settled down by next winter (summer). Was it Covid or fires or floods, or what?

Having paid scant attention to it, Durham, I can't say for certain - but I think it is a combination of Covid and general poor planning due to marginalising the SS in favour of the immediate lucre that the BBL brings. I think the competition was deliberately split into two playing periods, but some games did not get to be played due to covid.
