Wonder if we'd pass the beep Test?

We'd be watching Samit Patel disappear off into the distance.

If he was picked.

Moeen Ali PCA player of the year.

Must admit I missed his performances. Worcester is one of those counties I have a blind spot for. Like Gloucester.

I see Copeland and White have been refused overseas player status for next year. I understand why the ECB clamped down on Kolpaks but when a county has one overseas slot they should be allowed to pick whoever they bloody want to. All this will do is weaken County cricket and increase the gap between domestic and international criket. Absolutely stupid.

The system stinks; it's not as if Copeland and White are abandoning their roots.

It's players like Azhar Zaidi and Azharullah who should be clamped down on, they should never be classed as domestic players regardless of obtaining relevant citizenship. They firmly learnt their trade and spent most of their careers outside of county cricket and really are the ones who deny homegrown youngsters their chance of professional cricket.

Cam White as well? Ignore my post on the Northants thread then.

I wonder if it would be the same for Surrey or if an exception would be made?

Of course, this is meant to maximise the quality of OS players..................

but yeah...... I agree too. It seems a nonsense that a proven OS player like Copeland who can commit to a full season, can't play, because he can commit to a full season. Yet another county can bring in 4 OS players for about a month each.... which kind of makes a mockery of the whole OS player thing.

How can Magoffin play for Sussex, then? When was the last time he played international cricket?

Yet Diva hardly played any international cricket. He's an Australian, with an australian accent, and a home in tasmania, working for cricket australia, who had no problem being Italian in order to play for Derby and Durham consistently for several years.

Perhaps Copeland should become Gianlucca, instead of Trent, then he'd be okay, as long as he can dig up a long lost granny... there must be plenty of Italian grannies who would adopt him for a few quid, courtesy of a corrupt Italian official, who'd authorise it for a few quid...... this is Italy after all..................and Copeland must have a few quid.

It's the ECB shooting themselves in the foot. They want to create a balance where only the best overseas talent can play but at the same time it will not block the path for young domestic English talent, which is certainly a noble goal. The only problem is they've made the requirements so arbitrarily that it means almost all players who could actually bring positives to County cricket are no longer eligble to play in it while leaving loop holes for counties such as Lancashire to exploit.

There must be a historical argument from up on high that counties can not be trusted to secure the future of the English game, following the years of kolpak abuse within the game. However when you've clamped it down to a single overseas player being able to play, why would any county not try and get the very best player they could do. The new system basically means that only the richest counties can actually secure the services of top notch overseas players. It's daft, short sighted and will ultimately do more harm than good.

Magoffin has never played international cricket-don't think he plays domestic cricket in Australia anymore. He must either have an EU passport or qualify due to the confusing ( to me) part of the ruling about players who had work permits before 2010 being exempt from the restrictions. I'm not sure exactly what the rule is but some overseas players can still play on because they were working here before a certain year.
