Arthur Crabtree wrote:Not sure that works. Bowlers need to bowl spells and that helps them in all formats. I suspect playing CC cricket helps him in limited overs.

True but that presumes he gets to bowl lengthy spells in the CC. He's unlikely to get that opportunity particularly as the CC programme is now in Spring and Autumn.Probably should still play CC though and use it to develop his batting.

Can't say I blame Rashid for taking a break from red ball cricket when early season pitches don't help spin.

Certain captains did not utilise Rashid well enough - Gale would mostly bowl him to bring down the negative run rate and wasn't trusted by Cook. Whereas Gough and McGrath saw Rashid as a wicket taking threat and would set appropriate fields.

Moxon not happy with the decision.

Nor could one envisage Gale and Rashid having a calm rational discussion on the issue!

no.... but Bayliss is, so that's what most important, and nobody could possibly ever accuse England/FTECB of being myopic or prone to 'short termism'

could they?

I'd guess there wasn't the interest in him from other Counties that he, or indeed Kent, expected.

I guess it means he is not too far from his family. Might not even need to move house.

Good signing for Hants, though

Bailey isn't returning to us, so not only do we have a vacancy at number 4, but we also have a four-day captaincy vacancy.

Plus, we've hardly made a signing in the batting department in years. Whilst letting the likes of Carberry and Smith leave. So we no doubt had the wage budget to throw his way.

Our best signing for years.

(I know he was linked to all manner of clubs, but realistically, when I looked at each in turn, I only really saw us and Notts as likely options. How much it came down to geography, I have no idea).

Good signing for Hants, just thought was odd for N-East.... apparently we (essex) were intrested in him, but he wasn't sure where he would fit in to our batting line up, and i agree, we have a strong batting line up, doubt he would have even got in

Well given that Vince got an Ashes place despite mediocre LVCC performances, maybe he's on to something.
