Since Day/Night cricket was designed to attract the after work crowd, the ECB brains might want to visit a major train station at evening rush hour to see most workers are actually shattered from a days graft and actually want to go home. Last thing workers want to do is sit on hard, plastic seating in conditions where temperatures begin to drop.

If anything, pink ball cricket has a better chance of working in September when bad light becomes a factor. Matches can start at 11am to minimise the dew effect and any leadened skies during late afternoon/early evening simulates twilight conditions.

A match between Hampshire and Yorkshire was mentioned in the article. Hampshire would generally expect around 1700 attendees each day but that number was halved for the pink ball match with only 100 or so in at the close of play.

I hope he can sort things out.

From a purely selfish viewpoint, I hope he is back playing cricket real soon. He is seen as a real up-and-comer in the Shield ranks, tipped for the Baggy Green maybe even before making his Shield debut?

It's a strange one this.

It was reported on a couple of websites yesterday afternoon, but they gave no details of the sledge. All they said was "he removed himself from the game" while batting, and returned, and it was "concerning a sledge". I was wondering at the time if he had removed himself because HIS sledging was over the top and he was trying to be a better person. Ridiculous, I know.

Quite possible - Davey might have left the field of play in case he may say something regrettable. The information is based on one persons account.

of course, once wee Davey took himself off the field of play he ended his innings, so quite why he was allowed to return and resume that innings is up for debate. It was with the agreement of both clubs, which I guess is fair enough, but would it have happened at a higher level of cricket?

From what I saw on the tellie yesterday, Jason Hughes was sledging Warner and called him a disgrace. This may have been in relation to something surrounding Phil Hughes' death.

his wife was on a sports show yesterday, defending his actionsmaking him look even more stupid and pathetic. She told us that "there is sledging, and there is abuse".

I can only assume that Wee Davey has educated her on his two favoured forms of communication.

to give something undeserving even more air...

a report I read yesterday had Jason Hughes merely calling Warner a disgrace due to his part in the ball tampering disgrace.

If that hurt you, Davey, you are in for a world of pain should you make it back to playing for Aus again.

my instinct (based on nothing at all) is that wee Davey is perhaps the one player of the three who might never be welcomed back into the fold.

I expect to see Smith brought straight back in as soon as his ban ends or whenever the players union can get him back in, whichever happens first. Bancroft will have to get back in on playing merit alone, if he can score heavily in the Shield and for Durham. Warner will end up becoming a T20 specialist, imo
