I didn't expect that, I thought Dawson was being groomed as our next captain, I heard Adams say that he didn't particularly want to be the T20 captain..so maybe Vince will take over that role ?

Think it's a brilliant decision. Could be the making of Vince. All the talent in the world, but in the past has arguably not always had his head screwed on. Or at least, has been a touch too laid back. This could help to turn him into a top, top player.

Not convinced that he'll be made t20 captain, but we'll see. It's quite clear that Jimmy doesn't want it. (And besides, if Smith does well in Maxwell's absence, then it could be Jimmy to make way once Maxwell returns from the IPL).

Vince captained Hampshire the other day in a T20 against Barbados which we unfortunately lost :(.

Currently playing in a FC game against Notts and the day 1 scorecard can be found here : http://www.ageasbowl.com/cms/documents/ ... 0March.pdf. A few promising signs.

Smith and Terry (and maybe a couple of others but I'm not sure) played in a different team in a 30 over game which was made up of Hampshire and Northants players against Warwickshire of which Smith captained and reach 42* while Terry opened and hit 93 off 73 balls.

Not technically a FC game, scores don't affect average etc, but thanks for that, interesting to see how they are getting on.

First match of the season has just ended - the Champion county v MCC FC match. No mention at all on any sports desks on TV or Radio 5 (the sports channel!) that I have heard. Very poor coverage.

A decent preview of our season

Been like that for a few years now, since they moved the game to Abu Dhabi.

Astonishing win by England over Sri Lanka - "catch" by Lumb that was rejected had even the 'neutral' commentators moaning. However, no Hants players in the England side, no Hants players in the MCC side. In the days of Warne Hants players were appearing for England all over the place! Tremlett, KP, Dimi.....

Can't understand why that 'catch' wasn't given. It was clearly out on replay, no doubt about it at all.

Personally I dont particularly want our players flying to Dubai less than a fortnight before the season, and I won't mind none of our players in the England side if we get a full season of Carbs and Vince ( although I expect England Lions games to disrupt us )

Anyone else excited for next week ??

I'd imagine we'll line-up

1.Carbs 2. Adams. 3.Daws. 4. Vince. 5. Smith. 6. Ervine 7. Wheater. 8.Coles. 9. Balcombe. 10.Briggs. 11. Tommo

I'd expect that to be the XI. They might decide to go with Brathwaite over Briggs if they feel the conditions merit it (Abbot not being available yet, and Wood being injured, leaves Brathwaite as the next seamer in line). Afterall, there is Dawson to bowl spin, as well as a bit from Smith and Carbs.

But then again, if we're going to use Vince's bowling again, then playing Brathwaite would effectively mean playing six seamers. And in that situation, there's an argument for playing an extra batsmen in Briggs' place instead. Though it's probably an argument that is very quickly shot down when you consider how poor our attack would be, due in part to how much bowling Vince, Ervine and Dawson would need to do. Depends a lot on what sort of Balcombe we get this season.
