I guess as he will only play in T20 and 50 over it doesn't matter so much for me. Jackson Bird is probably a pretty good signing as he is unlikely to be selected for the Ashes. Seems to have a pretty good FC average but don't rely on him too heavily to make many runs down the order, could be competing with Tommo for the number 11 berth. Why only three months?

I'd imagine it's a combination of a possible Ashes call up (or an instruction by CA to rest, in case they need to call him up mid series) and the fact that July and August are jam packed with limited overs cricket. It might be that we'd rather bring in a limited overs specialist, like Arafat is, to play for us then rather than Bird.

Thanks for everything Pothas. You'll be missed. My nickname for you was apt and I will never forget it. For the last time, arise Sir Nic.

With Griffiths, Howell, possibly Rouse & a potential newball bowling partnership of Balcombe & Tremlett all in the CC next year & all being former Hants development players - unlike some foreign players who have clocked up 6 (six) different counties, I just hope Bates can find another county.
I know a close friend of his who said that Pothas was furious some years ago about the way he felt Bates was being treated with rumoured (presumably Pothas knew definitely what was happening) approaches for Ambrose & Foster before Wheater was signed.
I was told that this was a major reason for Pothas leaving which was certainly not the way it seemed when he went - I remember he said he wanted to remain in the FC game which didn't happen as he was coaching in the Channel Islands the last time I heard of "Sir Nic".

Hampshire coach Dale Benkenstein is hoping to take batsman James Vince to Natal as their overseas player.

Benkenstein will again be working on the Dolphins coaching staff for the upcoming South African domestic season.

Natal's Australian batsman David Miller is set to be on international duty before Christmas and Benkenstein wants Vince, 23, to fill the space.

"From Vincey's point of view it will be unbelievable experience for him," Benkenstein told BBC Radio Solent.

Vince, who scored 2,065 runs in all competitions for Hampshire this summer, is part of the England performance programme this winter and he is likely to be included in the England Lions squad to tour South Africa in the New Year.

And Benkenstein believes Vince, who helped steer Hampshire to the Division Two title on the back of being the country's leading County Championship run-scorer with 1,525, would benefit hugely from the move: "To get someone like that won't cost the earth.

"He's getting to the stage where he is really playing good cricket and to go and play somewhere else is good for you, and obviously for the Dolphins he can be a match winner."

What do we all think about the KP interview in the Telegraph?

Two quotes which about summed it up for me, then I got bored.

"In a highly impassioned interview, in which his voice trembled several times, Pietersen outlined his belief that he was marginalised and demonised in the England set-up from the moment he lost the captaincy"

"After Cook refused to confirm that Pietersen would be retained after the Ashes, the ECB summoned the team’s best player to a hotel near Lord’s and told him he was not part of the future"

Unfortunately KP does not state what was in the texts to the South Africans & it is believed that he does not explain his behaviour towrads James Taylor during a test a couple of years ago (although he does state more than once how much he helps the younger players).

Many feel that KP was dismissed from the international circuit presumptuously but he does himself no favours by never admitting that he is in the wrong and by falling out with whichever team he is with. Having Piers Morgan as a mouthpiece/advocate /defender is probably less of a help than he imagines!

Prior's reaction should be interesting when it comes. :)

We are looking to re-sign Nathan Rimmington, this time as a non-overseas as he holds a British passport, I'd be happy with that.

For the life of me I can't remember what he did for us this season?

Played in 1 FC game ( the only game we lost vs Essex ) took 2 wickets for not many and hit a 60 something when we were in trouble.

Interesting that Carberry has supported KP when it appears from this week's press that KP gave Carbs the James Taylor treatment when England were up against it in Oz last winter - or according to reports he did it behind his back so presumably Carbs doesn't believe the story.

More a case of Carbs trying to stick it to the ECB, I think.

Bit of a random thought, but with 3 x List A trophys, 2 x T20 and now a LVCC div 2 win, is Slug now our most successful ever player ??

I'm fairly sure he was tied with someone at 5 limited overs trophies, can anyone think of anyone with 6 or more titles ??
