Only one or two, they've played out maidens recently so going for the draw. Perhaps I miscalculated and a draw is enough for Somerset to finish above us?

They finished 6th, one point behind us if the cricinfo table is correct.

Which would put us in the prize money-£20k for the players and £4k for the club. We've now got £9k to get a Minor Counties player.

I wonder why Somerset didn't just throw the bat towards the end? They would have finished 6th with a loss so may has well have gone all out for the win.

Because Tresothick is an extremely negative captain is the answer to that question which explains why Somerset have won nowt under his charge. It's only a few seasons back when he called a halt on a run chase at the Riverside in the final game of the season when they were in contention for the title-it was something like the target we chased at Notts last year iirc.

Somerset also took a cautious approach at the Riverside this year. We had them 4 down by mid afternoon in the final day and then dropped Kieswetter early on. He then teamed up with Compton in a big partnership and neither of them looked like getting out. I've just checked the card and they needed 91 from the last 9 overs with 6 wickets in hand but agreed on the draw as soon as Compton reached his century.
10 rpo over such a short period was plausible and they could also have batted out a draw if a few wickets had gone down. Colly said afterwards he was surprised they didn't go for it.

Whilst he does seem to be overly cautious, I don't think that's why Somerset have not won the Championship. That is almost entirely due to the nature of the pitch at Taunton. They couldn't even win the title when they had Botham and Richards in the side.

Tres has had a good season this year. It was beginning to look as though his powers were on the wane in 2013, but he seems to have turned that around. It's good to see. He's a fine player, it would have been a shame if he'd decided to pack it all in because of poor form

Probably saving face, wouldn't look good for Somerset if Yorkshire won from the jaws of defeat.

Leicestershire are like Ireland in some ways, losing their best talent to the opposition.

Difficult to create a competitive team when their best players either retire or move on, only to be predominantly replaced by those from within. Leicestershire need at least two proven batsmen in the domestic game and two bowlers, just to help their relatively young and inexperienced players develop as cricketers.
