It was clear that WASP would be useless before a ball was even bowled in this competition. It is based on historical data.

Such historical data which includes innings being 40 overs of length, five men being able to field on the boundary, only one white ball being used, and many players not fed a diet of t20 cricket since a young age.

Apples and pears.

Not too unhappy to see Gale out first ball. None off one is better than the half century he may have got from a hundred. I don't know why we pick him for this form of cricket.

Yes, WASP is just a gimmick designed to satisfy the obsession of some for everything to be quantified in figures, no matter how spurious.

During last night's game, it was up and down like a bride's nightie.

Drop Gale and Yorkshire won't have a batsman to take his place, let alone find someone to captain the side.

A nice comprehensive win against Hampshire to confirm 1st place and a home quarter final tie against Durham, preferably on a Thursday so I can actually attend.

Any batsman playing regularly for the 2nd XI would improve the one day side. Another captain could easily be found.

It's not only WASP that's nonsense, the player batting index is even more rubbish, adding the average to their S/R is meaningless. A player with an average of of 10 plus a S/R of 160 would end up with an index equal to a player with a 60 average and a S/R of 110.
I believe these things were invented in NZ and wonder if SKY have has to pay to use them.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Not sure why a change of captain is necessarily at this point when Yorkshire are performing well in the One Day and County Championship competitions. Last thing Yorkshire want to do is play an inexperienced teenager in a high pressure situation.

No problem with Gale playing and captaining in the Championship.

So many times, though, in the shorter form, his slow scoring has snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

Aye, Gale does have a tendency to get stuck in a rut from any match situation.

For what it's worth i'd give Rafiq the limited overs captaincy but Yorkshire have opted not to off him a new contract. Might well be a huge mistake if Rashid finds his way into the England squad by next year and Yorkshire are without a spinner.

I was very surprised to learn that Rafiq had not been awarded a new contract. I reckon a few counties will be after him now.
