Didn't the same guy take a 8-for 30 last week? What type of pitches are these playing on, raging bunsens? Permaul was less than exciting on debut in test cricket by memory!

Quite right, SP...unfortunately, Caribbean domestic batsmen are so bad at playing spin, that any mediocre spinner can dominate them. Here are the leading bowlers so far...please note their bowling averages:

Guyana somehow contrived to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, going down by a mere two runs as 13 wickets went down on the final day at Providence. Ryan Hinds topscored with 68 as Barbados were bowled out for 228 by spinners Veerasammy Permaul (4-75) and Dev Bishoo (4-65). Set just 69 to win, the hosts were stunningly bowled out for an embarrassing 66 by medium pacer Dwayne Smith (5-17), opener Raj Chandrika topscoring with 30.

Chasing an unlikely 239 for victory at Queen's Park Oval, Trinidad were bowled out for 201 by Jamaica's left-arm spinner Nikita Miller (7-63), Nicholas Pooran topscoring with 55. It was a more straightforward victory for the Windwards, who easily chased down their target of 136, losing only one wicket, Tyrone Theophile topscoring with 62 not out.

Just when you think it can't get any worse...it does! On the opening day of the four-day match at Sabina Park, a total of 17 wickets fell. Legspinner Damion Jacobs took 5-27 to dismiss the Leewards for a paltry 103, opener Lyndel Richardson topscoring with 31. Pacers Gavin Tonge and Orlando Peters then took four and three wickets respectively to have Jamaica reeling at 5-37, and then 7-87, until Jacobs (33 not out) and his fellow spinner Nikita Miller (50 not out) came together with an unbeaten partnership to rescue Jamaica, and take them to 165-7 at stumps.

At Queen's Park Oval, spinners Dev Bishoo (4-49) and Narsing Deonarine (3-25) combined to dismiss Trinidad for a mere 198, Lendl Simmons and Yannick Cariah hitting 50s. At the close of the first day's play, Guyana were 27 for the loss of Tevon Griffith's wicket. It was better news for the batsmen at Arnos Vale, where Barbados reached stumps on 230-5, thanks to an unbeaten 56 from Roston Chase and a round 50 from Shai Hope. Left-arm spinner Alston Bobb has taken three wickets for the Windwards so far.

It was a rare moment when batsmen dominated a day's play...only four wickets fell at Queen's Park Oval, as Vishaul Singh played a captain's innings of 115 not out to lead Guyana to 300-5 at stumps, for a first innings lead of 102 so far against Trinidad. He received support from Rajindra Chandrika (60) and Raymon Reifer (58).

Roston Chase hit an unbeaten 120 in Barbados's total of 352, but there was not much else, as left-arm spinner Alston Bobb took 3-89. At the end of the second day's play, the Windwards were 151-2, thanks to Johnson Charles's 79 not out.

Jamaica were in command of their match at Sabina Park, having made 222 in their first innings, thanks to a 100-run partnership between spinners Nikita Miller (62) and Damion Jacobs (41), the wickets going to pacers Gavin Tonge (5-57) and Orlando Peters (4-44). Facing a deficit of 119 runs on first innings, the Leewards were struggling on 155-6 at the halfway stage, Montcin Hodge topscoring with 58 so far. The damage has been done by Miller and Jacobs, with three wickets each so far.

Guyana were in complete command of their match, going into today's final day, having made 492-8 declared in their first innings, thanks to a captain's knock of 141 from Vishaul Singh. After he got out, Chris Barnwell (65 not out) and Veerasammy Permaul (50 not out) carried the visitors to their imposing total. Part-time offspinner Jason Mohammed was Trinidad's most successful bowler with 3-41. Facing a first innings deficit of 294, Trinidad were reeling at 58-4 at stumps, pacer Ronsford Beaton having taken two wickets to date.

Only eight wickets fell on the third day's play at Sabina Park, as the Leewards put on a much better showing in their second innings, making 313 all out, thanks to Rakheem Cornwall's 95. There were three wickets each for spinners Nikita Miller, Damion Jacobs and Tamar Lambert. Chasing a tricky target of 195, Jamaica recovered from a shaky start to be cruising at 160-4, thanks to unbeaten batsmen John Campbell (63) and Dave Bernard (33).

The match at Arnos Vale is interestingly balanced, with all three results possible. In their first innings, the Windwards were bowled out for 274, opening batsmen Johnson Charles topscoring with 151, and he received support from Andre Fletcher (61), spinners Jomel Warrican (5-75) and Ashley Nurse (4-56) doing the damage. Leading by just 78 runs, Barbados were tottering at 93-5 at stumps, offspinner Shane Shillingford with three wickets so far.

Guyana comprehensively beat Trinidad by an innings and 60 runs yesterday. Spinners Veerasammy Permaul (4-51) and Dev Bishoo (3-82) combined to bowl out Trinidad for 234 in their second innings, Akeal Hosein topscoring with 64. It was also an easy victory for Jamaica, who beat the Leewards by four wickets, just losing John Campbell (68) and Dave Bernard (50) at the end, while the hosts finished on 195-6.

Barbados battled a minor earthquake and a bee invasion to register a narrow 12-run win over the Windwards at Arnos Vale. The visitors collapsed dramatically in their second innings to be all out for 128, Shai Hope topscoring with 34. Offspinner Shane Shillingford took 5-46. Chasing a victory target of 207, the Windwards were bowled out in the final overs for 195, medium-pacer Dwayne Smith taking 3-30. Andre Fletcher was left stranded on 65 not out.

For the first time in a long time, no side was bowled out on the first day of a round of the domestic four-day competition. In fact, all two of the teams lost eight wickets at the beginning of the fifth round, but the runs accumulated varied from ground to ground.

At Beausejour, the Windwards went on a run-feast, hammering a hapless Trinidad attack to rattle up 388-8 at stumps, thanks to knocks of 136 from opener Tyrone Theophile, 83 from Keddy Lesporis, and 54 from allrounder Liam Sebastien. Pacer Shannon Gabriel and legspinner Imran Khan have each taken three wickets to date.

Guyana were in command at Sabina Park, notching up 298-8 on the opening day, thanks largely to an unbeaten 75 from tailender Veerasammy Permaul, while there were 40s from Leon Johnson and wicketkeeper Anthony Bramble. On his return to the side, legspinner Odean Brown has taken three wickets to date for the Jamaicans, and there are two each for another leggie, Damion Jacobs, and pacer Jason Dawes.

It was slow-going at Kensington Oval, where, despite getting in 90 overs, Barbados crawled to 182-4, thanks mainly to an extremely patient 72 from 232 by opening batsman Kraigg Brathwaite. For the Leewards, Gavin Tonge, Orlando Peters, Sherwin Peters, and Rakheem Cornwall have taken one wicket each so far.

Just clicked on the link with the bowling stats you posted above mike, and think I'm right in saying Dwayne Smith averages 10 with the ball! That speaks volumes about batting in the Caribbean.

And after a rare day in which the batsmen did well, it was back to normal on day two, with the bowlers taking control once more. In the top-of-the-table clash at Sabina Park, 16 wickets fell on the second day. Guyana took the match by the scruff of the neck, after being bowled out for 314, tailender Veerasammy Permaul left stranded on 86 not out. There were three wickets each for legspinner Odean Brown and pacer Jason Dawes. Permaul then captured 4-22 to skittle the Jamaicans out for a mere 177, Jermaine Blackwood and Horace Miller topscoring with 44. But when Guyana batted a second time, they were reeling at 54-4, Leon Johnson topscoring so far with 33, and Shiv Chanderpaul not out on six. Pacer Marquino Mindley has taken two wickets so far.

Barbados were in charge of the match at Kensington Oval at the halfway stage. Wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich hit 131 not out, and he was supported by a knock of 60 from Carlos Brathwaite, as the hosts made 406-6 declared in their first innings, medium pacer Orlando Peters the only successful bowler with two wickets. Pacers Carlos Brathwaite and Tino Best then took two wickets each to have the Leewards reeling at 84-5 at stumps, wicketkeeper Jahmar Hamilton topscoring so far with 30 not out.

At Queens Park Oval, the Windwards declared at 400-8, and then medium pacer Kenroy Peters took 3-14 to leave Trinidad struggling at 129-5 on a rain-affected day. Yannick Cariah is 40 not out.

In a match that showed everything that's wrong with Caribbean cricket, Barbados crushed the Leewards by an innings and 190 runs within three days. Pacer Carlos Brathwaite (4-18) and spinner Jomel Warrican (4-33) combined to dismiss the tourists for a paltry 136 in the first innings, wicketkeeper Jahmar Hamilton the only batsman offering any resistance with 66. Trailing by 270 on first innings, the Leewards were asked to follow on, and they did even worse! This time it was Warrican (3-17) and pacer Miguel Cummins (3-24) who routed the Leewards for a pathetic 80 all out, Hayden Walsh topscoring with 17.

On the third day's play at Sabina Park, veteran Shiv Chanderpaul hit 77 to help Guyana revive their innings to 202 all out, pacer Marquino Mindley taking 3-51. Set an unlikely target of 340, Jamaica were reeling at 105-6 at stumps. Pacer Keon Joseph has taken two wickets so far, while captain Tamar Lambert has topscored with 29.

Rain continued to ravage the match at Beausejour, In reply to the Windwards' 400-8 declared, Trinidad were bowled out for 177 by medium-pacer Kenroy Peters (5-21) and offspinner Shane Shillingford (3-42), Yannick Cariah topscoring with a round 50. Following on, Trinidad were six without loss going into today's final day.

Despite a stubborn last-wicket partnership of 84, Jamaica expectedly succumbed to Guyana by 105 runs on the final day at Sabina Park. Number 11 Odean Brown hit 45 not out, and there were 30s from Dave Bernard, Jason Dawes and Damion Jacobs, but Jamaica were eventually bowled out for 234 by pacer Keon Joseph (3-34).

Batting a second time, and still needing another 223 to make the Windwards bat again, Trinidad were embarrassingly dismissed for a paltry 75 all out by offspinner Shane Shillingford (4-25) and medium-pacer Kenroy Peters (3-11). Yannick Cariah topscored with 12 - yes, 12!

Roston Chase and wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich hit unbeaten 80s to put Barbados in a commanding position on the opening day of their match at Kensington Oval. Captain kraigg Brathwaite was out for 40, as the hosts closed on 246-4, and legspinner Imran Khan has taken two wickets for Trinidad so far.

Leaders Guyana were in command on their rain-affected day in Antigua, pacer Ronsford Beaton taking 4-40 to dismiss the hosts for a paltry 139 all out, tailender Jeremiah Louis topscoring with 27.

Despite a knock of 96 from Jermaine Blackwood, Jamaica were bowled out for 204 by left-arm spinner Alston Bobb (5-38). The Windwards were 41 without loss in reply.

Leaders Guyana cemented their stranglehold over minnows Leewards at the halfway stage of the match. When they batted, Opening batsman Raj Chandrika hit 83 to lead Guyana to 267, for a first innings lead of 128. Spinner Rakheem Cornwall took 7-96. At stumps, the hosts were 36-1, still needing another 92 runs to make Guyana bat again.

Andre Fletcher hit an unbeaten 102 to put Windwards in charge in their battle for third place at Arnos Vale. At stumps on the second day, the Windwards were 289-7, leading by 85 runs, and Tyrone Theophile hit 55. Medium pacer Dave Bernard has taken four wickets so far.

A total of 16 wickets fell at Kensington Oval on the second day. Barbados collapsed from an overnight 246-4 to 275 all out, wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich out for 92, and Roston Chase for 85. Legspinner Imran Khan took 4-65 and pacer Shannon Gabriel 3-40. Chase then hit back by taking 3-14 with his offspinners, and pacer Carlos Brathwaite chipped in with 4-50, to dismiss Trinidad for 218, opener Evin Lewis topscoring with 43.

The sorry tale of scores in the PCL continued yesterday, as two more matches finished within three days.

Guyana cemented their hold at the top of the table with a convincing eight wicket win over minnows Leewards. Sherwin Peters and Gavin Tonge topscored with 46 each, as the Leewards could only manage 200 in their second innings, bowled out by spinners Dev Bishoo (6-82) and Veerasammy Permaul (3-57). Chasing a paltry target of 73, Guyana lost two wickets in reaching it with a day to spare, Leon Johnson topscoring with 36.

Jamaica fared even worse against the Windwards, who crushed them by an innings and 22 runs. Needing 124 to make the Windwards bat again, the visitors were skittled out for an embarrassing 102 all out by offspinner Shane Shillingford (6-31), wicketkeeper Carlton Baugh topscoring with 24.

Leading by 57 runs on first innings, Barbados were in command of their match going into today's final day. Shai Hope hit an unbeaten 111, and Carlos Brathwaite chipped in with 59 not out, as the hosts made 278-5 declared, Imran Khan the most successful bowler for Trinidad with 2-74.

Poor batting totals continue to afflict the regional teams, as Trinidad, chasing an unlikely 335 for victory, were skittled out for a paltry 113 all out by pacers Tino Best (3-19) and Carlos Brathwaite (3-17), giving Barbados a victory by 222 runs. Evin Lewis topscored with 38.
