Double-edged sword this rain.

On the one hand, it takes overs out of the game and therefore reduce the number which we need to bat out. It may even deny Somerset the use of a third new ball towards the end of the day, if sufficient overs are lost.

But on the other hand, if/when it clears, the conditions may be much more favourable for bowling than they have been to date. It could be a very tricky hour, say. And having lost Vince just before the rain, that wouldn't be ideal.

I note that Yorkshire have said that Plunkett, Bairstow and Rashid will all be rested next week against us, following the ODI series. Root has already been rested by the ECB. Thank you Jason! (Still Lyth, Lees, Balance, Sidebottom, Bresnan, Brooks and others though!)

Also, it was recently announced that it will be shown live on Sky.

Good opportunity for Jimmy to bat casually and get an unbeaten double ton today, and prove all the doubters ( which includes me ) wrong.

As a bare minimum we need at least one more person to make a 50. In all probability though, we need two more guys to reach 50.

I'm confident all the while Smith is out there, can't think of anyone I'd rather have out there

All our top 3 faced over 150 balls each, and number 4 is currently 105 balls and counting, wonder when the last time we could say that was

50 and out for Smith, still 4 runs behind, could be interesting

Well done boys. Horrible first day, which cost us batting points and handed them bowling points. But from there on, at least we ensured that we didn't lose.

Seven points we've closed up on Sussex, whilst also denying Somerset the opportunity to get right away from us. Those two take each other on next week.

Will be interesting to see what change is made for Monday, it was a stupid decision to play Crane at Taunton, and one I still don't understand

Personally I'd drop him for Yorkshire and pick Wood ( surely he can get through 1 FC game ) or failing that, Gatting or McManus and boost the lower middle order

Unchanged squad has been announced - ie the XI who played vs Somerset, plus Tommo and Stevenson.

The Yorkshire squad meanwhile is: Ballance, Bresnan, Brooks, Fisher, Gale (captain), Hodd (wicketkeeper), Leaning, Lees, Lyth, Middlebrook, Patterson, Rhodes, Sidebottom.

But fantastically for us, the squad comes with the words: “I think Ryan Sidebottom probably won’t play at Hampshire because back-to-back games may be too much for him. I don’t want to blow him out for the end of the season.

Matt Fisher will probably play."
