Terrible idea. Can't see how it would work without ruining the integrity of the Championship.

I suppose it was inevitable. The ECB have been wanting to do this for years and it looks like they are going to get their own way.

I hope T20 bombs spectacularly in this country. The thoughts of the genuine cricket lover are ignored.

I think there's a very good chance it will bomb, some grounds seem to be full for most games but others attract fairly low crowds. I've always had the impression it's never been quite as popular as its reputation.

I can't help feeling they are announcing this to either stop people talking about KP or they accept KP is always in the headlines and are releasing this info now to bury bad news.

I think that's quite likely.

The irony is that after a rocky 15 months where they should now try and rebuild their reputation, this will not go down well with the media.

12 games a season and most of them will likely be played at the beginning and end of season when the weather is at its poorest.

It will make the competition a total lottery. If teams don't play the other sides twice how will they work out which ones you play once? No doubt we will have Warwickshire twice!

It used to be like that, when there were 17 counties, and 24 three day games a season.

This reminds me of the creation of the unitary authority in Durham.

this is how the process works
1. come up with a radical idea
2. ask the people
3. get firmly rejected by the people
4. wait an indecently short period of time and do it anyway

Don't forget that the views of the 'outsiders' are most unwelcome when there is a sniff of a few quid in the air

They are missing the most obvious point.... sorry...... not the most obvious..... 'THE' point

If the ECB wants their T20 competition to make them a sh1t load of cash........ put it on free to air TV and then watch attendances at grounds rise

Cash or cricket.

That's what it boils down to.

How long will the likes of Leicestershire last under this model?

Sadly the cricketing purists are now a dying breed and all these changes are a consequence. I guess test cricket will eventually go the same way. Cricket isn't a patch on what it was when I were a lad.

Yes and there's nothing we can do about it, the only voices listened to are those with the money. The only positive is the inference that the 50 over competition will be more prolonged.

Tom Harrison is a marketing man and was brought in for this express purpose, so I guess we shouldn't be surprised. Up till now County Cricket has been the centre of the English game now it's all about money and nothing else. We now are about to see the T20 tail wagging the CC dog.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.
