there seems to be a pattern emerging for day/night FC cricket with the pink ball...... bat for 2 sessions and insert the opposition for the final session in the dark. Choose a colour that no-one can see in the half light and set up an intriguing contest between bat and lights.

What a debut from Travis Dean :o
Sports broadcasting media nut miscast as a hard-working family man. Or should that be the other way around?

Absolute dream of a debut. I don't think there was much that could have gone better - did he get to hit the winning runs??

Only the 7th player in history to score 2 centuries on debut
Highest aggregate score for in debut - in the whole history of 1st class cricket - 263 runs.
On the field for the entirety of the match - 335 overs.
Not out both innings - exactly 500 deliveries over almost 11 hours.

So, who now thinks that Finch was unlucky to be dropped for this boke?

Drop Quiney for Finch. An amazing debut for Travis Dean. If James Pattinson can stay healthy and Fawad Ahmed takes a few bag fulls, the Vics could be a tough team to beat.

Pattinson will be back with the Baggy Green soon hopefully. Swap him and Siddle around. Let the older man do the Shield duties.

Travis Dean sounds like a hell of a player. Those who have watched him say he is technically "very, very organised" too. Thats great to hear and he seems to be an old fashioned Test player - not a slam bang merchant. Hopefully him and Bancroft are kept away from the BBL. Jordan Silk's FC numbers have gone south ever since he started playing T20 and he was also dropped for the last game.

Also good to see Handscomb scoring a hundred. I know he doesn't keep for Victoria but I'd certainly have him ahead of his teammate and captain Wade as far as the back up keeper in Test cricket is concerned. Ryan Carters should also be in the frame after his success vs NZ in the warm up matches. I presume he will get the gloves for NSW in the absence of Nevill. Also hope the likes of Kurtis Patterson get a run in the side now that NSW will be losing half their players to the Test squad.

Jake Doran is another name worth keeping an eye out for. Glad to see him get a game for Tasmania. Hope he gets a decent run.

All in all, some good positive signs as far as young batsmen are concerned this season. Really hope some of them take their game to the next level and push for the Baggy Green.

In relation to Jordan Silk, he'll come back in for Jake Doran in the next round. The selectors down in Tasvegas probably have the hump with him over not playing in the BBQ cup. And I don't think T20 has messed him up, I'd say opening the batting has, along with the weight of expectation, I suspect. He should be batting preferably at 5, or at a stretch 3, with Doolan at 5.

Jordan Silk is a future Test player.

what the divil is happening in the NSW game? this is Australia, not Chester-le-Street, so I don't believe it is raining all the time

perhaps good light is stopping play because NSW like to bowl the opposition out when it's so dark that the batsmen can't see the ball, or perhaps or perhaps it's so hot that the ball keeps melting between leaving the bowlers hand and reaching the batsmen leaving them with a round blob stuck on the end of the bat that they can't shake off.

No, the outfield has been deemed not suitable for first class cricket.

Lots and lots of rain in the past few days apparently and it hasn't drained off too well.

Is it a case of sportsmen getting a little too precious? Am I being too harsh?

A bit of a stink has occurred as a result of this. The SCG has been stripped of its next game.

Chris Hartley should be the MotM for this Shield match against Tassie. His declaration more than 100 runs behind worked perfectly for his team, with them scraping a narrow win. He couldn't've timed it better. Also, he held his nerve when wickets were falling to guide the Qbillies home.
