Indeed, Dizzy suggesting that it was Lyth and Lees' feedback at tea that put an end to any notion of a chase is decidedly odd.

Well, a fairly humiliating defeat against a resurgent Surrey. After a very bright start to the season it seems we've run out of puff, or to be more precise our lack of quality batsmen is starting to show and the lack of quality in the reserve bowlers. In what world does anyone think Buck is good enough to opening the bowling in Division 1, let alone when we're picking him over Bailey.

Fortunately we probably did enough at the start of the season to stay up, but there needs to be a hard look at the number of players we have who are barely meriting selection.

Latest ECB bulletin helps neither Notts nor Lancs.
England pace bowlers James Anderson and Stuart Broad will miss the remainder of the domestic season.

Lancashire's Anderson, 34, requires "ongoing rehabilitation of his right shoulder", the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said.

Nottinghamshire's Broad, 30, played on T20 Blast Finals Day last week, but is recovering from an ankle problem.

Both counties have difficult run ins.

What a turn around that was. Somerset from 227 for 1 to 294 for 7.

Rain leads to the game being called off as a draw. Really poor pitch at OT for this match.

Pretty grim day with just the two youngsters getting anything out of it for us. A loss would make things very dicey.

Very good fightback in the end with Rob Jones carrying his bat with a ton to his name and half tons for Liam and Tom. Kerri gave it some rip to knock out The Middle's top order leaving them only 140 ahead at 4 down.

Good chance for a draw, or possibly even a win which didn't look too likely at 5 for 32 yesterday.

Intriguing final day in prospect.

Having to rely on Durham can't have calmed the nerves! I was expecting the usual collapse although to be fair we do have a decent record of chasing on the 4th innings.

To be honest, I stopped following the whole affair when we were 5 for 57 given it was clear we were going to lose and I didn't think Hampshire would do. I only caught up with the events when the table was shown at the end of the Yorkshire game, which needless to say was a pleasant surprise.

It occurs to me that we've been probably been paying Glen all season as a player - probably a fairly decent salary given his experience - yet he's not played a single game. I don't recall him retiring and he was listed as part of the squad on the website at the start of the season. Surely that can't be right, or the board are taking the piss.

He said at the start of the season he was available for selection. Perhaps the club just kept his registration and his salary is for a coaching role.

Possibly, but as far as I am aware he's still not retired which is a little odd.

Chapple could command a fair wedge as a bowling coach given the knowledge and experience he has and it has to be worthwhile to keep his playing registration given he could still make a playing contribution. I'm surprised he's never been called on.
