He's 42 now and will 43 next season, I don't see how he could manage to get through the overs expected in a 4 day game anymore, especially after not playing for an entire season. If we have to keep a player that old registered for the "just in case" scenario then it speaks volumes about our bowling depth, heck even Buck got a game in front of him this season. I suspect he's kept on as a player because we'll pay him more and because he's still hoping for the 100 wicket mark.

Don't get me wrong, he was a great player, but we should clear the matter up and employ him as a coach.

Lancashire have let 4 players go, post season....

Nathan Buck leaving his contract 1 year early to Northants

Luis Reece season before last people were really hyping him up, he isn't having his contract renewed

George Edwards has been released

Gavin Griffiths has gone to Lecistrershire

Most of these were announced during the season, a month or two ago.

So would it be worth cash strapped Durham taking a punt at Reece?

That thought occurred to me too.

We've gotten rid of Buck a year early, huzzah. Northants have signed him, why? Rob Jones has signed on as has Danny Lamb while Proctor and Parkinson have also signed extensions which is good to see.

Need to get in that experienced top order bat though.

no

being skint doesn't have to mean being desperate too. even if he's cheap, it's just throwing money away on someone who isn't seen as being remotely good enough by Lancs

He signed for Derbyshire a few weeks ago, so don't worry.

Beggers can't be choosers might be an appropriate response but he's no longer an option as he's signed for Derbyshire.

Beggars need to be more choosy than anyone else. whatever they decide to spend money on has to work. Only the moneybags can afford to take a punt on an outside chance

Maybe Lewis should spend a few weeks traipsing around SA looking for talent with English Grandads who are keen to play in England. Al a Surrey.

Experienced and respected cricketer Kim Barnett though and he's prepared to take the punt. But Lewis rates Cameron Steel highly.

We've also got the Faulk back next season as well.
