Pretty sad day for the CC. Neither team was good enough to win the game they started, so they decided to play something else instead.

I seem to remember Rogers interview last night when he was saying that he would be on the phone to some of his ex Middx teammates making sure they batted their hearts out today......

I don't agree, surely the way things panned out has brought a few new CC followers into the fold.

Dunno, the contrivance made the game look a bit idiotic.

Yorkshire's refusal to accept challenging but reasonable run chases throughout the season came back to haunt them.Their inexperience in run chases showed up clearly. Great day for the CC with both relegation and championship issues going right to the wire.

What a season that was in the end. Aside from Notts - what the hell went wrong there - it's been tight throughout, on the last day of the season 3 teams could have been champions and 3 teams could have been relegated.

I disagree, Arthur. Given that both teams were in the position where only a win would do, both teams owed it to their supporters to do everything that they could to win. If that means setting up the match situation so that both teams have the opportunity to go for a win rather than the game petering out into a dull draw, so be it.

It certainly produced a thrilling result. I do feel sorry for Somerset, but you have to judge teams on the whole season rather than the last session of the last game.

Barely back from a 20.5hr day down at Lords - it wasn't to be, but what a heroic performance by Yorkshire CCC and Tim Bresnan under huge amounts of adversity and a fine day was enjoyed. Not just the cricket, but the people whether they supported Yorkshire, Middlesex, Somerset, Northants and other neutrals alike. A great day to be a cricket fan.

Rather sad to see Tresco moaning about Buffet bowling, he'd have done the exact same thing in Middlesex or Yorkshire's shoes.

Both laughable and hypocritical given that Somerset have been preparing dustbowls for their last few home games.

Indeed, all of the negative comments forget that what ever team had been in that situation would have done exactly the same thing.

And did he not complain about Durham not setting a target for Somerset in the last game a few years ago? He was fuming that we let it play out as a draw.

Matthew Maynard and Vic Marks both came out and said they had no problems at all with the way the match panned out at Lords, as they would have done exactly the same thing.

I didn't have a problem with setting up a result. I just felt Middlesex's declaration was too generous.

It was lawful and created a very exciting finale bu I still believe captains arranging the game in this way should be banned. There was a famous example of this in SA involving England some years ago, which turned out to be corrupt. That should have put an end to future arranged endings.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.
