231 from wicketkeeper Sunil Ambris,

Shai Hope struck 215 not out

These are real eye openers in a competition where hundreds seem so rare.
I always say that everybody's right.

Batting returned to its usual atrocious standards at the start of the ninth and penultimate round.

Medium pacers Kevin Stoute (4-51) and Jason Greaves (3-29) restricted Trinidad to 196, on the first day of their day-night encounter at Kensington Oval. Allrounder Roshan Primus topscored with 60, and he returned to take three wickets to leave Barbados reeling at 27-5 at stumps.

It was even worse at Arnos Vale, where pacers Kyle Mayers (6-29) and Delorn Johnson (4-26) dismissed Jamaica for a paltry 56 all out on the opening day of their match. At the close, the Windwards were strongly placed at 181-6, veteran opener Devon Smith on 66 not out, and Andre Fletcher chipping in with 57. Left-arm spinner Nikita Miller has taken three wickets to date.

On the second day of their match in Bridgetown, Trinidad took a narrow 28-run lead. Medium pacer Roshon Primus captured 4-21 and offspinner Bryan Charles 3-32 to dismiss Barbados for 168. Allrounder Kevin Stoute topscored with 81 not out. Medium pacers Stoute and Justin Greaves then shared five wickets between them to limit Trinidad to 133-5 at stumps. Amir Jangoo is the only batsmen to offer any resistance to date with 71 not out.

At Kingstown, veteran opener Devon Smith hit 100 not out to lead the Windwards to 223-9 declared, left-arm spinner Nikita Miller taking 5-58. Trailing by 167 runs, Jamaica ended on 249-8 at the halfway stage of the match, thanks largely to a knock of 72 not out from allrounder Fabian Allen. There were 40s from Paul Palmer and Devon Thomas, while offspinner Shane Shillingford has taken five wickets to date.

Poor batting once again continue to plague the ninth round, as both matches ended with more than a day to spare.

At Kensington Oval, Trinidad hammered Barbados by 130 runs. Opener Amir Jangoo hit 71 and allrounder Roshon Primus 51, to guide Trinidad to 211 all out in their second innings. Medium pacer Justin Greaves took 5-63. Chasing a not-too-challenging 240 for victory, Barbados didn't even come close. Medium pacer Primus took 5-21 to dismiss Barbados for a paltry 109 all out, Greaves topscoring with 20.

In St Vincent, the Windwards crushed Jamaica by eight wickets. Fabian Allen topscored with 77 as Jamaica made 262 all out in their second innings. Offspinner Shane Shillingford took 7-91. Set a mere 96 to win, the Windwards knocked off the target for the loss of just two wickets.

Defending champions Guyana put one hand on this season's PCL trophy, by taking control of the first day of their final round match against the Windwards at Providence yesterday. Pacer Keemo Paul took 6-28 to dismiss the Windwards for a paltry 95 all out, wicketkeeper Sunil Ambris topscoring with 29. Veteran opener Assad Fudadin then hit 113 not out, and Chandrapaul Hemraj 54, as Guyana responded with 210-2.

At Kensington Oval, Barbados finished the first day in command on 297-6, thanks to an unbeaten 104 from allrounder Justin Greaves, and 82 from Kenroy Williams, while opener Kyle Corbin made 51. Derval Green and Dennis Bulli have each taken two wickets to date for Jamaica.

Trinidad got off to a good start on the opening day of their match against the Leewards at Warner Park, piling up 269-6 thanks mainly to Yannick Cariah's 73 not out, and 40s from opener Amir Jangoo, Isaiah Rajah, Akiel Cooper and Ewart Nicholson.

Guyana will play a rescheduled match against the Leewards next weekend.

Defending champions Guyana put themselves on the verge of securing another title, when they secured their hold on their match at the halfway stage at Providence. Opener Assad Fudadin hit 125, and there were knocks from tailenders Keemo Paul (46) and Steven Jacobs (61) to carry the hosts to 379 all out. Pacers Delorn Johnson (5-46) and Kyle Mayers (4-89) took most wickets for the Windwards. Trailing by 284 on first innings, the Windwards were facing defeat at 102-5 at the close. Veteran opener Devon Smith was still there on 60 not out, while left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie has taken two wickets to date.

In Bridgetown, Jamaica were left waiting to see if Barbados will enforce the follow-on at the start of today's third day. Yesterday, allrounder Justin Greaves was out for 114, and tailender Ashley Nurse made 60, as Barbados piled up 377 all out, pacer Derval Green (3-57) and part-time spinner John Campbell (3-57) taking most wickets. Medium-pacer Greaves then took 3-40, and there were two wickets each for Ashley Nurse and Suleimann Benn, as they bowled Jamaica out for 224. Wicketkeeper Devon Thomas topscored with 59.

On the second day of their match at the small Basseterre ground, Trinidad piled up a massive 553 all out, thanks to Yannick Cariah's 196 and Tion Webster's 109. Spinner Jason Campbell took 3-100. The Leewards replied strongly, openers Chesney Hughes (59) and Montcin Hodge (49) reaching 120 without loss at stumps.

Guyana won their third PCL in a row at Providence yesterday, when they crushed the outclassed Windwards by an innings and 122 runs with more than a day to spare. Left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie took 4-45 and pacer Keemo Paul 3-36 to dismiss the Windwards for a paltry 162 all out in their second innings. Veteran opener Devon Smith hit 61, but there was not much else from the Windwards batsmen.

In the battle for second place, Barbados have the upper hand at Kensington Oval, despite crashing to 187 all out in their second innings in the third day's play. Deciding to bat again instead of enforcing the follow-on, the Barbadian batsmen failed to get going, with only allrounder Kevin Stoute with 52 making any significant impact with the bat. Spinners Nikita Miller (4-45) and Fabian Allen (4-46) did most damage for Jamaica. Set an unlikely 341 for victory, Jamaica took the match into the final day with a game 114-1, led by Chadwick Walton, who was 70 not out at stumps.

In the battle for bottom place, the Leewards limped to 273-6 on a rain-affected penultimate day, in reply to Trinidad's massive 553. There were good contributions from the top three of Chesney Hughes (71), Montcin Hodge (64) and Kasey Carty (53), but the middle order succumbed to the legspin of Imran Khan, who has taken five wickets to date.

Barbados secured second place with a narrow 26-run win over Jamaica at Bridgetown. Left-arm spinners Jomel Warrican (5-87) and Suleimann Benn (3-90) combined to bowl Jamaica out for a game 314 all out. The Jamaican challenge was built around half-centuries from Chadwick Walton (93), Tevon Griffith (53) and Fabian Allen (60).

In St Kitts, the Leewards once again finished rooted to the bottom of the table, when they were hammered by an innings and 17 runs by Trinidad. Legspinner Imran Khan took 5-66 to dismiss the Leewards for 299, and forced to follow on once again this PCL, they were bowled for an even smaller 237 the second time around. Spinners Khan (6-74) and Bryan Charles (3-110) routed the Leewards, for whom Montcin Hodge carried his bat for 96 not out. Kasey Carty made 54, and Akeem Saunders 41, but all the other batsmen disappointed.

Champions Guyana will play cellar dwellers Leewards in a match of academic importance only on the weekend.

With the placings in the PCL long-decided, cellar dwellers Leewards took control of their academic match against champions Guyana at the halfway stage at Providence yesterday. Opener Montcin Hodge hit 70 and tailender Jacques Taylor 60 not out, to take the Leewards to 255-7 at stumps in reply to Guyana's 187. Medium-pacer Raymon Reifer has taken four wickets so far for the hosts.

In a match of academic interest only, the Leewards beat champions Guyana by 10 wickets at Providence with more than a day to spare. Tailender Jacques Taylor topscored with 72, as the Leewards made 306 all out. Medium pacer Raymon Reifer took 6-74. Trailing by 119 on first innings, Guyana limped to a poor 143 all out, Chandrapaul Hemraj topscoring with 29. Pacer Gavin Tonge (3-33) and offspinner Rahkeem Cornwall (3-68) did the damage for the Leewards, who easily knocked off the target of 25.

Despite the Leewards' belated win, they still remain rooted to the bottom of the table.

1) Guyana - 134.8 points
2) Barbados - 124 points
3) Trinidad - 102.8 points
4) Jamaica - 102.6 points
5) Windwards - 97.6 points
6) Leewards - 89.2 points
