So finally we are back in the big time back in Div1. I would say that we are now at our weakest, for years we have had a quality squad who massively under-achivevd, and i think we will badly struggle without Graham Napier and David Masters...this is our squad so far for the new season

Nick Browne (opener)
Varun Chopra (opener)
Alistair Cook (opener)
Dan Lawrence (middle order)
Kishan Velani (middle order)
Tom Westley (opener/middle order)
Ravi Bopara (middle order/ part time seamer)
Simon Harmer (off spinner/lower order bat)
Callum Taylor (all-rounder)
Ryan Ten Doeschate (captain, middle order bat/ right arm seam)
Ashar Zaidi (middle-lower order bat/ left arm darts)
James Foster (wicket-keeper)
Adam Wheater (wicket keeper)
Moahmmed Amir (left arm fast)
Aaron Beard (right arm medium fast)
Matt Dixon (right arm medium fast)
Aaron Nijar (left arm spin)
Jamie Porter (right arm fast medium)
Matt Quinn (right arm fast medium)
Neil Wagner (left arm fast medium)
Paul Walter (bowler)

Our batting looks to be secure for the new season, trying to pick a championship XI for the season from thes squad is tough. Very strong squad on paper, and plenty of guys will be unlucky to miss out on selection IMO the side will be

1.Nick Browne
2.Varun Chopra
3.Tom Westley
4.Ravi Bopara
5.Adam Wheater
6.Ryan Ten Doeschate (c)
7.James Foster (wk)
8.Simon Harmer
9.Mohammed Amir/Neil Wagner
10.Jamie Porter
11.Matt Dixon

Alistair Cook will slot back in when avaliable, and it wil be harsh on whoever gets left out...incredibly strong top 7, finally have a spinner in Simon Harmer, and 2 quality overseas quicks, obviously only one at a time..Porter is a quality prospect and well backed up by Dixon...we have strong squad on paper, can't wait for life in div1!

Westley might get a call up if he starts the season well.

Well we have made a promising start to the season in both formats which is good to see... We have been helped massively by the form of Cook, which has meant that we haven't really noticed that, Browne, Westley and Chopra have all been out of sorts at the start of the season.. The form of Ryan Ten Doeschate has been good to see as well. Has scored a lot of runs already this year, and gets better and better, the captaincy clearly helps his batting. Suprised me to see James Foster left out thus far this year...i would have probably played Wheater as a batsman, and let Fossie keep this year before his retirement. The arrival of Simon Harmer, has been recieved well amongst the Essex faithful, and he has repaid with a number of match winning performances with both and ball, and is now a vital member of this side. The arrival of Amir later in the summmer should only boost the seam bowling attack, which is being well led by Jamie Porter this year, and overrall the start of the season, has gone well, and hopefully we will finally have some more silverware this year..

Woop must admit didn't expect that after losing Napier and Masters....we have no standout in our attack, but all the bowlers chip in collectively and it works..

Wagner's one of the best bowlers in the world.

Wouldn't say either of them are standouts...Wagner isn't one of the best in the world he's useful, and IMO Harmer is a good county all-rounder....our attack all support each other well and is joint effort, and we look a good outfit this year

Chris Silverwood takes over as England's fast bowling coach. Got to be bad news for the champions.
