Who's Sorry Now: Down by the Riverside

Postby Durhamfootman » Tue Feb 21, 2017 4:44 pm

Dear Durham board, players and supporters,

Just a quick word from all at HQ

Who's Sorry Now?
Who's Sorry Now?
Who's heart is aching for breaking each vow?
Who's sad and blue?
Who's crying too?
Just like we cried over you.
Right to the end,
Just like a friend,
We tried to warn you somehow.
You had your way,
Now you must pay;

And we're glad that you're sorry now

kindest regards,
Connie Francis

I bought my three T20 season tickets today ahead of the new season. My fears that they might try to limit me to 'named' season tickets didn't materialise and so I will be able to take whoever I like to the matches. Presumably some progress must have been made because I have a feeling that a few years ago that might well have been a problem

Any special interest to the season for being in CC2? Easier games, more wins likely, different opposition?

New top order.
I always say that everybody's right.

It's a chance to play some different teams for a change, instead of the usual suspects, in all forms of the game, year in, year out.

I'll be interested to see if the points deductions has a big influence on tactics. Draws could very quickly become no more worthwhile than losses so there might be a lot more risks taken than is usually the case. The opposition teams too might play things differently. The weather also likely to be more of a factor than usual.
There's the potential for all sorts of unintended consequences in the league.

One or two of the young players might benefit from playing at a lower level whilst they develope their skills.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Yes, that's one good thing about the relegation. Famous last words but I'd expect the bowlers to excel and it might be a return to the old Durham low scoring matches.

Totally agree which is why I'm not too upset about the relegation sanction. I think we'd have really struggled this coming season in the 1st division. As to the further points sanction I'll just read the table as if it doesn't exist. If Durham arethen in a promotion situation at the end of the season on that criteria then it confirms how ludicrous the further points sanction has been.

New thread and not long to go now. I honestly think if they have luck with the weather and injures they will still go close for promotion. One things for sure there will be result pitches at the Riverside and Durham will bomb the opposition with pace. my one concern is winning enough matches away from home especially with Durhams lack of quality slow bowlers. I can't see them making much of an impact in the one day comps just have not got enough explosive batting.

We do lack proven spin options but then so do all the other 2nd division teams- can't think of any of the top of my head. If we're playing on Bunsen's Pringle can be effective as anyone as he proved at Hampshire. With only 14 games I can't see us making up a 48pt deficit. FTECB.

Could be a big season for Pringle and hopefully Hickey kicks on this season as well. Pace attack looks as good as anyones with plenty of options. If the weather does not intervene to much i believe we will win all our home matches.
