Harrison reiterated the ECB was in a "holding position" while it awaits a decision from the Crown Prosecution Service on any potential charge that Stokes may face.

Only when the legal proceedings surrounding Stokes are concluded will any cricketing disciplinary decision be made.

Harrison said that could be "six to 12 months away".

While Stokes is not available for England selection, he is permitted to play domestic cricket, as demonstrated by his time with Canterbury.

If his current situation is unchanged by the English summer, Harrison said his participation in county cricket would be up to his Durham team.

FTECB are fudging the issue by putting it in Durham's hands. They are his employers, therefore his availability is their decision. They decide when centrally contracted players are available for their county.

I think the point they are making is that Stokes wouldn't be available for England and so, quite rightly, they won't be in a position to tell Durham when or whether to play him. They can and do pick which county matches an England player can, or can't play in, as part of England prep, but if he isn't available for them, then they should, and seemingly will, mind their own business

which represents a bit of a change for FTECB. Perhaps they are learning to be humble........ particularly when their boys are being humbled?

Nah..... I don't think so either

If he does play all ,or the majority, of next season for Durham we could well get promoted especially if by some miracle Wood is fit for more than a few games!

Merry Christmas everyone and all the best for the new year.

Yes and likewise I'd wish to extend season's compliments to all. Wood's central contract implies that ECB(that title for Christmas only)view him only as a ODI selection and will severely restrict his availability for Durham.

Good point. The ECB will probably keep him under wraps.

Seems to be a suggestion that Stokes could play IPL cricket next year, i'm not sure if that's a good idea even if he was cleared by CPS.

A 7 month absence of prolonged cricket in all formats, surely Stokes is best prepared by playing for Durham ahead of the home internationals. Also i'm in the belief that Stokes misbehaviour was caused by the volume of intense cricket played in a 5 month period - IPL, South Africa series, Champions Trophy, West Indies series and a lack of a proper break. England not issuing a No Objection Certificate for the next two years to play lucrative Twenty20 matches would be a more fitting punishment.

It didn't even cross my mind that he might not play IPL.

While I share your sentiments, AP, staying in Blighty for the 2 months that the IPL is on won't make him 2 million quid

The whole Stokes situation is farcical at this point. If a centrally contracted player is allowed to play omestic cricket at home and overseas then he should be allowed to play for England. It’s not the County’s job to make such decisions as they are not his employer. The ECB are just trying to pass the buck, which they can’t do anyway as they have to clear him to play in the first place. It’s utter horse crap to be frank.

Gujarat Lions
Team Squad :- MS Dhoni, Ajinkya Rahane, R Ashwin, Steven Smith, Faf du Plessis, Mitchell Marsh, Ashok Dinda, Ankush Bains, Rajat Bhatia, Ankit Sharma, Ishwar Pandey, Adam Zampa, Jaskaran Singh, Baba Aparajith, Deepak Chahar, Usman Khawaja, Mayank Agarwal,Ben Stokes, Jaydev Unadkat, Rahul Chahar, Saurabh Kumar, Dan Christian, Milind Tandon, R Tripathi, Manoj Tiwary, Lockie Ferguson

Stokes is already contracted in the IPL for 2018. Can't see FTECB having the balls to refuse a NOC.

Surely that's last year's squad as the auction doesn't happen till late January.

No, a much larger proportion of players with all franchises have been retained for 2018 than in previous years. I got the info from here but it's contradicted elsewhere- difficult to know which is most recent.

also Chennai and Rajasthan are back in the game this year, after their bans, according to Adi, so I'd imagine that the likes of Dhoni will go back their roots, suggesting that those squads are all to pot.
