Seems as if Durham are doing their best to support Burnham and intervened mid-season when they realised there was a big problem.
Whether the same can be said if FTECB is another matter! Playing cricket over the winter would almost certaintly be good for him but it appears as if Durham will have to fund it.
I have a good deal of sympathy for him after reading the article and think there's a very good chance he will be able to put all this behind him.

In other( bad ) news John Etheridge from The Sun is claiming Stokes will be banned by England for the entire winter and possibly from playing in the IPL. Suppose the latter might be good for Durham as he will be available for us at the start of next season.

Not so sure it is bad news-this article implies that ECB are still paying his salary with a white ball contract.

Additionally Durham will get compensation for Colly and payment for Stoneman as the developing club.

There's a little ambiguity between the 2 articles. As I understand it there are wef Sept 2016 2 types of central contract-full and whiteball. Parachute payments are for the following year after a player loses his central contract e.g. Ian Bell this year. Presumably counties are compensated when players are on Lions tours. Main point is Durham shouldn't take a financial hit.

I see John Hastings has retired from all cricket apart from domestic T20. Might be an option next year if we're going to have a second overseas player? Although his retirement from the other formats is down to injury so it would be a big risk.

does this help
The ECB awards up to sixteen Central Contracts of 12 months duration, with the contract period running from 1 October to 30 September. Contracts are only offered to those players whom the ECB Board believe will play a major role in England’s activities in the year ahead.
For players holding a 12-month Central Contract, an England retainer replaces their County salary, with the County retaining the player’s registration. If the player is made available to his County, this will be on a free-of-charge basis.
The ECB may offer additional 12-month contracts, known as Increment Contracts. Likely recipients include those players who would be expected to feature regularly in the England ODI and/or T20 teams, but who are not well-established in the Test team. With England Increment Contracts, the County continues to pay the player’s salary, with ECB paying the player an incremental salary. The County receives compensation from the ECB for matches missed while on England duty.
Additional Increment Contracts can be automatically earned by players by accumulating points for England appearances throughout the contract year. Five appearance points are awarded for a Test appearance, and two for an ODI or T20 appearance, with an Increment Contract awarded to any player accumulating twenty appearance points.
Any player selected to tour that does not have a Central or an Increment Contract will be awarded a Tour Contract. Tour and match fees paid to any England player are the same, with differences in reward being determined by the value of the Central Contract or Increment Contract retainer.
THE FOLLOWING PLAYERS HAVE BEEN AWARDED CENTRAL CONTRACTS:

Five players have been awarded a red and white ball contract:
Moeen Ali
Jonny Bairstow
Joe Root
Ben Stokes
Chris Woakes

Three players have been awarded a red ball only contract:
James Anderson
Stuart Broad
Alastair Cook

Nine players have been awarded a white ball only contract:
Jake Ball
Jos Buttler
Alex Hales
Eoin Morgan
Liam Plunkett
Adil Rashid
Jason Roy
David Willey
Mark Wood

Additionally, Toby Roland-Jones has been awarded an incremental contract.

Interesting tweet from Graham Onions' wife :
Wow 15 years and leading wicket taker and all the assistant chairman says is "all the best bunny". This is exactly why Graham is leaving. #Loyaltygoesbothways

Definitely an acrimonious parting of the ways between Bunny & Durham. Presumably she is referring to a comment at the end of season awards dinner , and what else could the assistant chairman ( whoever he is ?) say apart from a few words of good luck to someone who is leaving the club but it is not the first time a senior player has left feeling hard done by.

There'll be two sides to the story but I guess like that Man City fella the club didn't buy him a cake for his birthday.

Seriously though I'm not sure what the guy could have said to Bunny at that time. When someone leaves a normal place of employment to move on there isn't a lot said by the bosses unless the employee has given 50 years service or something like that. There's probably been a leaving do with the other players (although given recent events, maybe not). Just look forward. I'm not a fan of people using twitter as a means for sportspeople or their families to sound off but it gives us an insight that not everything is rosy in the garden.

odd comments and one of the reasons why I don't bother with the twaddle, the @rse book or the instant noodle

this was the club's response once he'd made the decision to leave
Graham has played a huge part in the history of Durham County Cricket Club since making his first-class debut in 2004. He was part of the County Championship winning side in 2008, 2009 and 2013 and helped Durham win the Royal London One Day Cup in 2014.

DCCC are extremely proud of Graham’s development that saw him play Test cricket for England and recently become Durham’s leading first-class wicket-taker.

The Club would like to thank Graham for his exceptional service and wish him well for the future.

not sure what else his wife wants, tbh.

Yeah, I also don't know what else could have been said. The only thing would be if the contract they offered was on very poor terms and intended to effectively bulge him to turn it down.I'm sure that was not the case but it is the only reason I can think of that would justify genuine anger.
