And Nick Hoult in The Telegraph suggests the decision is coming this week. No doubt once it eventually does come FTECB will deal with it in their usual professional and decisive manner!

So will tomorrow be the day?! I have a feeling the CPS will miss their target because it would look a little odd imo if the extremely lengthy saga was coincidentally resolved one way or another on their exact deadline date - then again if a decision comes on a Friday they can spend the weekend in hiding!

In other news I see Rayner is no longer covering Durham for the Chronicle/Journal. Someone tweeted a question about potential signings and he said he didn't have any info for that reason.
A shame because he was excellent, I wonder if a replacement will be appointed or is it a further sigh that local newspapers are continuing to scale back county cricket coverage?

I feel it will be the latter with also TW last season no longer covering away games. FTECB actually provide scorecards themselves for the Nationals free of charge otherwise there'd be no coverage. So locally it's solely Marty and nationally cricinfo where Dobell and Edwards are excellent.

I agree. He almost certainly won't be replaced.

I fear that both CPS and FTECB are awaiting each other to take a lead on the issue so we have a stalemate. Had it been A N Other and not a celebrity then the accused would have been dismissed with at most a caution. If this inaction continues much longer I can see Stokes saying 'sod it' and becoming solely a T20 mercenary.

Yep. Especially as FTECB have said it could potentially be 12 months before its all resolved!

I suppose the only thing would be if he decided he'd make more by participating in the various other T20 domestic tournaments that he can't play in if he is contracted to FTECB - the ones that take place when England are playing internationals.
Then again if the saga does drag on for several more months he presumably would be given a NOC for those tournaments whilst also getting the 750k for not playing for England!

Hmm. All the year round cricket or 3or 4 T20 stints for slightly less remuneration but a much reduced workload? What a dilemma?

Now here's one Durham bowler who may well become a T20 tourist.

The Journal are yet another paper that are now using agency reports except ,I 'm told, if there is a 'significant' match that requires local coverage.

From Nick Hoult report on 1 day CAX1v England.Regards

Encouragingly, though there was also that missing ingredient from the Ashes series on show: raw pace from an England bowler. Mark Wood’s figures of nought for 68 do not tell the true story. His speed was back, he bowled the nastiest bouncer of the tour by an Englishman sending the third ball of the match flying past the nose of Renshaw and looked back to full fitness after six months of ups and downs with heel and ankle injuries.

He is the surprise, aggressive element Morgan has at his disposal that Joe Root badly missed in the Test series. “That is my role to ramp it up and be aggressive and try to take wickets by bowling fast. It might have surprised a few people that I pitched it up and tried to swing it, but I thought I’d let him have one early and try and put a bit of a marker down,” said Wood about the bouncer. Wood has put himself forward for the Indian Premier League auction at the end of the month, a surprise given his injury record but understandable given the high price put on bowlers with pace.
