This is the most significant sentence in that article IMO. I can't think of anyone better in cricket to take on that role.
"My job is to bring in new faces in sponsorship, open doors that perhaps couldn't have been opened".

Yes, opening the doors to new sources of income is the most crucial issue. If he can do that everything else should fall into place and as you say he is the ideal man to do it.

He's only doing two UK shows this year ( otter than Isle of White festival )so demand should be high. Think he remains a very popular live draw.

I must admit I was interested until I saw the prices. I like Rod but not that much. Plenty of fans around who will pay it though so hopefully the club will get a decent wedge out of it.

I was going to buy a couple for a wedding anniversary present, thought they would be £40 or £50 a shot, miles out of touch. I wonder what he could have charged if he did a gig at the Oval.

I suppose if there's one place expensive ticket sales for Rod could backfire it is in the North East. Being only one of two gigs for him should result in a sellout but nothing is guaranteed. I guess the promoters know what they're doing and will be the ones who take the financial hit if they have misjudged demand.

Yeah might come as a surprise to some members that he and Bransgrove are good mates.

I wonder if anyone will be brave/foolhardy enough to ask Botham if he thinks Bransgrove is in any way responsible for the sanctions ?!

I suspect that it's Bransgrove who's persuaded Botham not to fight the points sanction as FTECB won't move on them. I think Sir Ian has taken the right approach in such circumstances by dismissing them as "unnecessary" which is effectively saying FTECB we'll get back to the 1st division anyway.

Yes, made it clear he disagreed with them while at the same time shrugging them off. :fit h

Pick the fights you can win. Botham believes that Durham will do their fighting on the cricket pitch ( not literally,I hope).

Yes, no point wasting time and effort over those sanctions. I don't know how the emoji got attached to my previous post, I must have hit a wrong button!

do we know anything about preseason/warm up matches etc? I can't find anything on the website, but that isn't surprising. I need to know when to start up the match thread

I haven't seen any mention of pre-season games apart from the usual game against Durham University.
Presumably there will be others - surely can't just have one match ... Or could they?!

Season starts 5 weeks tomorrow on the 7th April against Durham Uni. Then a week later the championship opener against Notts. Depends on the weather might try to get there for a session or so against the university. Although the standard of the students over the past few years has been desperate.

I've contacted DCCC by both twitter and e-mail asking that question.

Just replied saying only preseason game is v DUCCE on 7th-9th April.
