How many below average pitches have they had this season?

Should be some sort of totting up rule.

If we do lose, I hope its by at least 50 runs.

Amazingly none, apparently.

I wish Wright could bowl all of those overs. He's the one Warks bowler who has looked very easy to face.

Half way there; 44 overs gone, 44 overs left.

If we were only three down, I'd be happy. But four down, when we're playing the extra bowler, does surely mean this two still needing to be there at tea.

Too early; way, way too early.

I've always been convinced that he'd get a recall, and ultimately shine at the highest level, but it should not be yet. He simply hasn't scored the volume of red ball runs this season to justify it. And that could prove to he hugely detrimental to both him and England. I say that because if he fails again - and there is a strong chance that he will - he may not get another chance in the future. I'd have rather he was recalled when he was smashing the runs, and looking like his old self.

It's too early for Crane too. But given that it is very unlikely we will ever play two spinners during the series, then it shouldn't really matter who that second spinner is.

He had his chance and wasn't up to scratch.

Went back to county cricket, has had a half decent season, but not good enough to warrant a recall.

Temperament and technique still not good enough for the highest level, although he thinks Australian pitches will suit him.

Just shows, with the Ballance recall how bad the batting talent in county cricket currently is.

Indeed. I heard yesterday that only four batters have made 1,000 runs this season. Not sure if that is D1 only, or both divisions. And three of those four batters play for Surrey, at the flat Oval.

I've tended to think that 1,000 is the target for a good, solid, job well done season. But nothing amazing.

What are you doing James? Part-timer comes on, and he chases a loose wide one. Thankfully he missed. Against the proper bowlers, he's just been leaving them alone.

The key will be trying to stave off a collapse if a wicket falls.

35 overs left. 6 wickets in tact.

If you'd offered me four down at tea, at the start of the match, I'd have snapped your hand off - let alone if you'd offered it to me after the finger went up against Bailey.

Still a huge amount of work to do, but we can see safety on the horizon for the first time.

We might also get a lose an over from the target, as Warks are on over behind - despite all this spin. The last hour is sixteen overs, plus whatever else you might have time to sneak in before the hour is up. Not sixteen overs plus whatever else you have not yet bowled.
