A batsman from the youth team would be the sensible choice in terms of looking to the future, not sure how much cricket Smith has played this season outside the first team and he hasn't made meaningful runs for us in a long time.

Topley's signing has seemingly been a complete disaster.

Dickinson it is. Three senior batters, three young batters, three bowling all-rounders, two tail-enders. Could be interesting.

No play today due to a wet outfield.

It's a lovely day down here, just mowed the lawn, a bit damp but dry as a bone after the sunshine had got on it for an hour or so.

I see the game is at Uxbridge, guess the drainage system isn't up to the same standard as the Lords one.

Still pathetic when the rest of the games round the country started on time.

Hopefully plays into our advantage. (A) A reduced game at this stage of the season potentially lends itself to a contrived result, if nothing can be achieved organically. And our 13 point lead over Middlesex in the table means that we'll hold the cards in such a scenario - unless the agreement favours us, we'll decline it. We'll also, you assume, be the side batting last - which is always want you want in a contrived run-chase, as you have the option of shutting-up shop if things start going against us. (B) As the away side, we can choose to bowl first (hence why I say we'll probably be batting last). If the wicket is still green and damp - but sufficiently dry enough to play on - then it could be a bowler's dream. And then come 24 hours later, when/if we're at the crease, it may have dried out further - thus making things easier for the batsmen. Similarly with the outfield: Middlesex could be smashing balls that ordinarily would rush away for 4, but a damp outfield tomorrow keeps it down to 2 runs.

Apparently it was dry and sunny but rain has got under the covers. Seemed premature to call off the whole day so early.

I saw the pictures of the heat lamps on the pitch, but when the official word was wet outfield I thought maybe it wasn't the pitch, but you're probably right.

As Brendy predicted toss uncontested today.

Debut for Felix Organ, barely 18 years old.

Replaces Vince who suffers hamstring injury this morning.

Good luck chap.

Not the strongest top five we've ever fielded!

Assuming this game now finishes a draw (I have a feeling now that both sides must just accept trying to get as many bonus points as possible - especially us, having lost Vince), then it should see us take a little chunk out of Lancs' lead over us. Every chance that they're walking away with just three points from this week.

Possibly the weakest batting line-up we've put out in years. But hopefully one or two of the four kids can get some runs, ahead of next season.

As you say its about time a youngster out of the academy/2nd team ranks came through.

Hasn't really been any batter who's made his mark since James Vince, and he came through almost 10 years ago.

This game is a farce.

We may not get a bat at this rate!

Just when they were about to get underway finally at 3.30pm down came the rain.

You couldn't make it up.

Sounds as if it is a real shambles and could be costly for Middlesex in more ways than one - won't make much money at the gate and might get dragged into the relegation battle.
