They're playing ODI's next week on Wednesday & Friday.!!
Or are you jesting?

Not jesting, just thought the will they/won't they play on the last game of the season was part of the tradition of the CC. And assumed the last round of games would be allowed media attention without any internationals to compete. My mistake...

The sad fact is that despite promotion and relegation issues still to be decided it'll get little or no media attention. :

Good point well made DFM!

It's not a competition that needs televising, there's only a handful of us die hards who are interested, and most of us are happy to follow online.

True but there could be more coverage by the written media. Far more minor sports get greater coverage.

Just in case anyone was in any doubt about what the Taunton pitch would be like, Somerset have gone with three front line spinners.

Middlesex on the other hand are following the usual England route of a first test on the sub-continent. Being a traditional seam attack side, they can't bring themselves to only play two seamers - and thus have only selected one front line spinner and one part time spinner. Now that could be one huge error on their part. And unlike England, they don't have a second or third match to follow to rectify such an error.

Carver in for Tim for Yorks. Cook doesn't play for Essex.

I guess Lancs v Surrey is a play off for runner up.

Yorks need six points to stay up, though I guess if Somerset have provided a rank turner, then Somerset may struggle to get maximum batting points. I notice Rayner is out for Middx, which is bad timing. A rain assisted draw would suit Yorks. Or a rain assisted draw in Taunton.

Yorkshire are fine. (Just as we would have been with a draw last week, joining you on 145).

I believe I am right in saying that technically it's seven points you need to keep Somerset at bay; the six points needed to survive is to keep Middlesex at bay, in the event that Somerset win (which they need to).

But think about it. A side who loses is very unlikely to lose whilst taking maximum bonus points. So no way are you actually going to need those full six points. You're mathematically fine if Somerset don't win. And you're realistically fine by taking just three or four bonus points.

If Somerset are level, Yorks stay up by fewer losses don't they (with wins being equal)? Meaning six points should be enough? And if Middx get max bonus points and lose, Yorks stay up on wins with six bonus points as they have more wins.

Probably Somerset/Middx aren't both going to get max bonus points, even if the hosts win, so admittedly quite hypothetical.

Yes. Sorry, I was looking at the loss and draw columns the wrong way round!
