Unusual for the PCL, the bat dominated the ball on the opening day of all three matches in the fourth round yesterday.

In Tarouba , defending champions Guyana made 245-2 against a toiling Trinidad attack, thanks largely to an unbeaten century from captain Leon Johnson, and a knock of 84 from opening batsman Tagenarine Chanderpaul, son of Shiv.

In Basseterre, there were half-centuries from Paul Palmer (78 not out), John Campbell (57) and Assad Fudadin (58), as Jamaica posted 315-7. Offspinner Rahkeem Cornwall has taken three wickets so far for the Leewards.

In Kingstown, Barbados reached 273-5, on the back of half-centuries from Anthony Alleyne (84), Shane Moseley (54), Kenroy Williams (55), and Kevin Stoute (59 not out). Part-timer Tyrone Theophile has taken three wickets so far for the Windwards.

At the halfway stage of the match at Warner Park, the game was still evenly balanced. Offspinner Rahkeem Cornwall took 4-86 to bowl Jamaica out for 342, Paul Palmer topscoring with 86. On the third day's play, it was back to the usual practice of wickets tumbling in the PCL.

In South Trinidad, 16 wickets fell, leaving defending champions on the verge of a comprehensive victory going into today's final day. Left-arm spinners Veerasammy Permaul (4-43) and Gudakesh Motie (4-46) routed the hosts for a paltry 120 all out in their first innings, Amir Jangoo topscoring with 39. Forced to follow on 364 runs behind, Trinidad were reeling in their second on 106-6 at stumps, allrounder Keemo Paul with four wickets to date.

In St Kitts, 14 wickets tumbled leaving that game nicely balanced. Veteran left-arm spinner Nikita Miller signalled his return from surgery, by taking 5-65 to dismiss the Leewards for a disappointing 232 all out. Leading by 110 runs on first innings, Jamaica fared even worse in the second, all out for 191. Tailender Derval Green hit 51, while offspinner Rahkeem Cornwall took 4-32.

In St Vincent, 14 wickets also fell on yesterday's penultimate day, leaving Barbados in a strong position to force a win today. Spinners Jomel Warrican (3-49) and Kenroy Williams (3-21) dismissed the Windwards for only 222 all out, despite half-centuries from Roland Cato (64) and Kyle Mayers (56 not out). Despite leading by 138 on first innings, Barbados slumped to 148-9 at the end of the third day's play, their batting line up ruined by offspinner Shane Shillingford, who took 5-70. Wicketkeeper Mario Rampersaud is the only batsman to offer any resistance, with 31 not out.

Poor batting continued to plague the PCL on the fourth day of the fourth round yesterday. Guyana, Jamaica and Barbados all registered convincing wins.

In the day-night match just outside San Fernando, Guyana crushed Trinidad by a mammoth innings and 217 runs. Left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul took 5-54 and pacer Keemo Paul 4-26 to dismiss Trinidad for a paltry 147 all out, Imran Khan and Daniel St Clair topscoring with 28 each.

Set 302 to win in Basseterre, the Leewards failed dismally, bowled out for a mere 144 by veteran left-arm spinner Nikita Miller, who took 5-31, showing once again why he's an indispensable member of the Jamaica team. Montcin Hodge and Terrence Warde topscored with 30 each.

In Kingstown, Barbados crushed the Windwards by 135 runs, in the midst of a string of low scores. Offspinner Shane Shillingford opened the bowling and took 5-74 to dismiss Barbados for 171, Mario Ramprasad topscoring with 36 not out. Chasing an unlikely 310 to win, the Windwards did not get close, collapsing to 174 all out. Kyle Mayers topscored with 76, offspinner Kenroy Williams taking 4-36.

At the Viv Richards Stadium, there was another shocking batting performance by the Leewards, as Trinidad won by an innings and 16 runs with more than a day to spare. Medium pacer Roshon Primus took 4-57 to dismiss the Leewards for a paltry 137 all out, Devon Thomas topscoring with 46.

A total of 13 wickets fell on the third day's play at Providence, as Guyana tightened their grip on the match. Nightwatchman Gudakesh Motie hit 72 to take Guyana to 314 all out, and a slender first innings lead of 20. The damage was done by spinners Ashley Nurse (3-33) and Jomel Warrrican (3-91). Pacer Keemo Paul then took four wickets to leave Barbados reeling at 126-7 at stumps. Anthony Alleyne has topscored so far with 32.

Jamaica were in a commanding position, going into today's final day at Sabina Park. Allrounder Fabian Allen hit 105 not out, and tailender Nikita Miller 52, to propel Jamaica to 352 all out. Offspinner Shane Shillingford took 7-94. Trailing by 152 runs on first innings, the Windwards limped to 169-6 at the close of the penultimate day's play. There were a pair of 41s from Devon Smith and Roland Cato, but not much else, as Miller ran havoc taking five wickets so far.

At Providence, defending champions Guyana registered an easy eight-wicket win over Barbados. Pacers Keemo Paul (4-63) and Keon Joseph (4-38) completed the rout of Barbados, bowling them out for a disappointing 197 all out, Jonathan Carter topscoring with 53. Set an unchallenging 178 to win, Guyana reached the target with the loss of only two wickets. Captain Leon Johnson hit 61, and opening batsman Tagenarine Chanderpaul 62 not out.

In Kingston, veteran left-arm spinner Nikita Miller led Jamaica to a convincing 10-wicket win over the Windwards. Miller showed why he's the top spinner in the Caribbean by skittling the Windwards out for a paltry 186 all out. Openers Trevon Griffith and John Campbell then knocked off the miniscule target of 35 without the loss of a wicket.
