Finally the end of the Stokes/Hales saga. Both fined but no suspensions so both available for selection - Hales may consider himself lucky!

Interesting article in Cameron Steel including an insight on Colly's influence. As most of us suspected Colly in effect ran the show and Lewis was merely his gofer so he's no loss. At the moment then we are left without leadership both on and off the field. Don't think there's any media person nowadays has any insight into the club's inner thinking so I imagine White and Trott's names are offered simply because they're available.Walker and Killeen have swapped roles if Dobell is correct.

Excellent article and , as it mentions , he does talk like a potential captain in waiting.
I'm probably missing something obvious but if there are going to be two 'head coaches' but neither will be full time positions won't it severely restrict the potential candidates? The list a/4 day coach would have to be available at different stages of the season.

It also means that being part time candidates could combine the role with a similar one overseas. Wishful thinking here for my dream team. Benks runs his own coaching academy jan. to March in S.Africa but is otherwise free, I think. Likewise Colly would be probably be available as T20 coach of it didn't interfere with England commitments.

Good point. I hadn't thought about it from that angle!

"I remember sitting down at the start of that season and Paul Collingwood talking to everyone. It would have been very easy to sit there and think that we were starting off 48 points behind, so let’s just play a normal season and let’s improve and think about next year.

"But Colly said that we were still going to think about promotion. He just said: ‘We’re going to have to win every game.’

"It made it a very odd year, because there were a lot of times when we would be in complete control of a game, where we would normally have batted and just taken the draw and been happy to take the first innings bonus points on top of the draw points.

"But we put in big early declarations and then ended up losing games, but we had to in order to have any chance of getting promoted again."

Central to this, of course, has been Collingwood. If it is true that no player is bigger than the club, then the now-retired allrounder tests the law to its limit.

"Not having him around will be hard," he says. "Everything at the club revolves around him. He knows everything about the club and the club knows everything about him. It will be tough moving on because his breadth of experience is extraordinary. Having him as a captain – especially in the Championship – was amazing, and possibly something that we won’t necessarily fully appreciate until he’s gone.

confirmation of a couple of things that I think we all knew..... JJB wasn't really in charge. Reports linking his career with the 2013 CC win and the One day cup win are some way short of the mark, although doubtless he'll want to take the credit... fair enough.. he's welcome to it, but I think most of us know what was really going on

Yep. Next season will be interesting to say the least without Colly.

Yeh and I've just realised that Craig White resignedfrom Hants a few weeks after North got his feet under the table at Durham. Coincidence?White and Benks did work at Hants together though with White assistant to Benks. Reunion?

ah.... good spot, WL

"We understand his decision to step down and have been aware of the difficulties of being away from his family. On behalf of the club I'd like to thank Craig for all the hard work and incredible contributions during his time here, he will be missed on both a personal and professional level. We wish him and his family well for the future."

I wonder if his family live in Yorkshire?

White with Benks as assistant, perhaps? role reversal... I still think Benks would fancy it, even as number 2

The Hampshire link could more likely be between ITB and Bransgrove who are big mates.
