He'll need all that yoga experience when he encounters early season Riverside pitches.

certainly better than gambling all your wages away in the one session interval between trudging off after a 3 baller in the first innings and trudging off after a first baller in the second

gawd help us all.... we should have got a half season snarling quick and a half season wily SLA

who'd be an opening bat up here in April and May?

maybe even June

Yep. Opening batsmen at CLS early season are almost certain to struggle and it'll be a major surprise to me if he doesn't. Although the last two did find their feet after a few games so hopefully he'll do the same and then not get an Ashes call.

I don't remember Markram scoring a run until his 4th and final game

I do remember Pattinson in 2017 and Henry in 2018 taking about 30 wickets in their first 4 games

seems like a no brainer to me

I agree. The IPL and World Cup will rule out a lot of players but there must be some quality bowlers around who are almost guaranteed to have a major impact. Actually the ones who are available will probably be ideal because they will be specialists in the longer form of the game.
That said a least he has experience of county cricket so shouldn't get a nasty shock - although I don't think he churned out the runs for - think it was Gloucestershire?

Take out a 206* and he averaged in the 20s for Gloucs. Difficulty with these early season starts is overseas can't get over for a pre-season as they're still involved in their own domestic competitions. Only a couple of early CC games this season then we're in to RL50 which may make it easier to acclamitise.
I can see the argument for an overseas bowler but with the attack we already have it's the batting which requires strengthening.

Good point. It's tough getting them in with all of the other cricket around the globe at or near to the start of our season.

I saw that on look north recently

I think they do that every year, but it is a nice touch. Presumably it means Stokesy is having a rest for Christmas ahead of the Windies tour

the trouble with our bowling attack is that we have no-one who can clear a tail out once the ball goes flat. I can accept our batsmen struggling to post 300 (or even 200 at times), but I struggle to accept us getting the other side to 100-6 and then watching them amass a 100 run lead with one batsman and 9, 10, Jack
